Chapter 28
Steven consoled Alicia until she had pulled away from him, hearing her little baby's heart wrenching cry. She went into the nonelaborate nursery, and went to the crib. She bent over, and lifted Astrid, pulling her tightly to her chest. "Shh, shh, mommy's here. Mommy's here, baby." Alicia cooed, and kissed her head sparsely.
Astrid sniffled for a moment, then she calmed down. Whimpering sounds did continue to escape her though. Her mother bouncing slightly trying to silence the baby. "Honey what's the matter?"
"Daddy?" Astrid whined, wanting her daddy. She loved her daddy, probably because he was always by her side. He didn't work so there for the two of them spent every waking moment together. His arms were stronger, his body was warmer, chest more rumbily. Her daddy made her feel so so safe, and she needed him. Don't think though that she didn't adore her mommy as well, she just favoured her father.
Alicia felt her heart squeeze, his very title gripped her like a vice. She couldn't help but reminisce about all the times Astrid had done this exact thing and Harry had slipped up behind Alicia, taking Astrid from her and comforting her. Making the cutest smile appear on her face. "Sorry Azie, but daddy isn't here." Alicia apologized, smoothing down Astrid's curly blonde locks.
"Not here? Daddy always here."
"I know, but he's not here. He'll be here soon." Alicia lied with slight hesitation, only wanting her baby to be happy. Luckily the young child believed her mother, and smiled. Laying her light head against Alicia's shoulder. The lanky blonde proceeded to return back to the living room. Finding Steven to be exactly where she left him. Taking a seat down beside him, he patted Astrid on the back, drawing her attention. "Steve!" She squealed with excitement, letting her small body be taken into his arms.
"Azie, baby, you have a good nap?"
"Yesh."
"Good good, are you hungry?" He questioned her, and chuckled as she vigorously nodded her head. Suddenly Alicia's attention was drawn elsewhere. Steven's phone was ringing, and the caller id belonged to Harry. The two adults exchange glances, before Alicia reaches forward and answer the call.
"Hello, this is uhh..."
"Alicia? What where are you, why are you answering Steven's phone?" Harry asked with no anger resonating in his tone.
"Harry, I-I... I'm at Steven's flat. Why are you calling?"
"I'm calling because I'm so sorry, I really lost control of myself. I love you and Astrid, I can't live without you. I forgot my medicine this morning, I would never have done that otherwise, and I'm never going to let that happen again. Please come home. I wouldn't be able to sleep with you beside me, and Astrid... Astrid needs me. You and I both know she won't sleep til I sing her a lullaby tonight." Harry told her with the softest voice, raspy and slow, it was everything she could've asked him to say, but yet she didn't know if it was enough.
"I don't know Haz, you really hurt me. Mentally and physically, you hurt me. You're right about Astrid, when she woke up from her nap she was asking for you and I had to lie to her."
I wasn't finished talking, but Harry interrupted me smoothly. "What'd you tell her?"
"I told her that you be here soon, that you'd hold her." Alicia said shakily, trying her best to swallow back the tears. She listened as Harry let out a quiet sob, and pulled the phone away from himself in hopes Ali wouldn't hear him. But she did, she did hear him and she wished she hadn't. Her cheeks went flush, and she couldn't think straight.
"It doesn't have to be a lie. Tell me you want me, and I'll be there in ten minutes. I'll take you home, and hold you and her both. Alicia please." He begged through the phone, and she was glad she wasn't seeing him face to face.
