Chapter 23

Pop that Question

Harry had spent five weeks planning the best possible way to propose he could think up. He knew of Alicia's love for all things sappy and romantic. So he had made a perfect picnic down by a little lake he knew of with a rickety old dock. White sheet laid out with a few petals of white roses here and there. He had decided since she claimed to love his singing voice that he'd serenade her. Her all time favorite band being Maroon 5, and she had always been stuck between Sunday Morning and She Will Be Loved. Yet Harry had picked the latter.

He nearly couldn't find someone to watch Azie, but Harry knew she would be safe with Steven. After all the lean blonde had really seemed to take a liking to Astrid. He did know how to care for her, and was very competent. It took everything he had learned in his time at the asylum to let his precious daughter be under anyone's care but his own, yet he finally willed himself to do it.

Dressed to the nines, was the opposite of what Harry did. He wanted it to be a complete surprise, and since funky, laid back, and almost indie/rocker was his usual style; that's what he went with. He had on a pair of light washed jean shorts, and a white sweater with some weird little crest right on his chest. His feet left bare, because he had just decided against any footwear. He had the blank velvet ring box tucked away into his back pocket, and laid a hand on his own bum every so often to make sure it had not been lost.

Alicia had been told very little other than they were going out to grab a quick bite to eat. Unannounced to her she was underdressing for he big stepping stone in her life. Only having put on a short pair of jean short with rolled up bottoms to make them look cute, paired with a Jack Wills striped Westbrooke Crew jumper. Her blonde hair in beachy waves for once.

The ride there had been long, but fun. Harry and Alicia had told each other jokes and talked about random things. Keeping each other pleasantly occupied. When they arrived Alicia cocked her head to the side. "What are we doing here?" She questioned, looking out at the dock with a blissful smile. Harry chuckled, seeing her features visually brighten. "We're going to have a good time." He answered, and got out of the car. Walking with to the dock with her not to short behind him.

Both of them took a seat of the white sheet, and Harry gulped nervously as he served her some of the salad he had prepared and put it the small picnic basket. All he could think about as the ate was the way his heart was thumping erratically. It was so loud and fast, he genuinely wondered if she could hear it. He absolutely could not focus. Harry wanted this moment more than almost anything, for her to agree to be his forever. Agreeing to make a commit, between the two that neither of them would ever just simply walk away. But fight to keep it together through the good times, and the bad.

Bright eyed Alicia watched closely as Harry rose to his feet in front of her, and then beckoned her to stand with him. His arms enveloping her into a snuggly embrace. His voice came out husky and rocky as per usual. The words to the familiar song tumbling out of his mouth.

Beauty queen of only eighteen

She had some trouble with herself

He was always there to help her

She always belonged to someone else

I drove for miles and miles

And wound up at your door

I've had you so many times

But somehow I want more

I don't mind spending everyday
