Homecoming was a drag.

Since you attend a non-traditional high school where no football program has been established, you simply entered the grassy quad area without prior events. If you think that was a turn-off, the was theme "Tiki Turn up", so there wasn't very much excitement to really begin. Everyone had a lei hanging from their neck. Everybody wore shirts with flower imprints on them, or grass skirts. Some had cameras, and one even had a stuffed toucan resting on their shoulder. There was shaved ice being served in the dark corner, and there was a pit where all the students gathered and danced, waving glow sticks above their heads.

Of course you aren't even thinking about setting a foot near that area. Nope. No way. You stayed in your little corner, and watched the action from it.

However, one brown-haired boy caught your eye amongst the crowd: Jared Gilmore He's your best friend; the only one that ever really makes you laugh, the one that makes you want to live life rather than observe it. Suddenly, his head turns from the group of boys he's talking to and his eyes lock on yours. You motion him over to you, using the nod of your head.

You trying your best not to be awkward. There are two reasons for that: (1) you're a very awkward person in general and (2) you had a crush on Jared. It was sudden too- like, suddenly his hair fell in the perfect positions and his smile was so warm and welcoming, when you looked into his eyes, you saw the melted chocolate they symbolized, and you watched your world melt away with it. You had a relationship that most would call "brotherly love," which is what Jared treated you like anyway. You had the dynamic of siblings, but you didn't like him like that. You liked him the way Kristoff liked Anna, or the way Luke loved Lorelei. You felt like he didn't notice that you had feelings for him, but at the same time you weren't sure you wanted him to.

Once Jared was in speaking distance (which was pretty close considering how loud it was), you said, "Check it out, looks like Margaret and Paul are really gettin' it on"

He glanced over to where you gaze zeroed in on, and saw the brunette and the blonde making out in the middle of the pit- they were the school's most anticipated couple of the year, but yet, as they kissed, it felt less like a beautiful long-awaited kiss, and more like a lion trying to get the other lion to want to mate; it looked kinda gross, but it was amusing to watch.

"Do you think they're gonna go?" you ask.

"Go what?"

You raise your eyebrows.

"What, here?" he asks, realizing what I was implying.

"Yeah. I heard the gender-neutral bathroom was a popular spot."

"Y/N, I can't think about that. I have used that bathroom on many occasions and now it's making me regret going in there." he says.

"Sorry for ruining your pre-ruined childhood"

"Just because my mom told me abut it early, does not mean I want to think about it," he chuckles.

"Oh my gosh" you exclaim, eying them, "They got to cut the shaved-ice line because they made out in front of them- isn't that illegal?"

"Hey look!" Jared exclaims, his long finger pointing through the pit, "I never knew we had a photo booth."

"It's just for homecoming. It's not usually there. As these people are not usually here." you say, motioning to the crowd.
