14. Girl Meets His Suitcase.

Maya Friar-Hart's POV

I kind of just stared for the first moment, completely shocked at what I was seeing.

But why would I be shocked? I knew this was gonna happen.

I thought I was stronger than that, stronger than to let a boy manipulate me. Stronger than to let him play with the strings of my heart.

But apparently I'm not. Apparently I just am gonna let my wild heart beat on my ribs, the cage containing it.

After that moment of horror, I spoke up.

And I scared the shit out of them.

Lucas stared at me with horrified eyes, but I ignored the green eyes of the devil. I just stared into Riley's.

I thought she was in love with Farkle. I thought that she no longer had feelings for Lucas.

And hadn't he literally just kissed me yesterday?

Now I'm just plain confused.

I get up, and exit the room. Behind me, Lucas calls my name. I ignore him.

"Mommy?" Elizabeth says to me as soon as I walk into the kitchen. "Can we eat soon? My new friend Zoey and I are so hungry!"

"Yep, dinner's ready!" I reply with a fake smile.

"Daddy!" She yells. "Dinner's ready!"

I ignore Riley and Lucas by taking the four kids upstairs.

"Is your Daddy a cowboy?" Lizzy asks.

Zoey shrugs her shoulders. "Cowboy? He's a scientist."

"Scientist? Mommy, how do girls kiss scientists?"

"Ask Riley," I reply, lifting her onto the stool.

"I can do that by myself," She says.

"Sorry."

We walk downstairs, the kids chattering for a bit.

"What's for dinner?" Riley asks with a smile. She snuggles into Farkle.

Didn't she just kiss Lucas?!

"Chicken," I mutter.

"It's a Cowboy meal!" Lizzy squeals. "Mommy, show them how you kiss a cowboy."

I snicker, and shake my head. "They already know-"

"No," Lucas says. "I don't think they do."

I glare at him, trying to make it clear that I want to murder him.

He doesn't take the hint.

"Yay!" Zoey squeals. "I wanna see!"

I groan and go over to Lucas. Pulling him close, I get into his face.

"Ha-hurr!"

Zoey and Elizabeth must have laughed so hard that they peed their little pants.

"Let's eat!"

The eight of us sit down, and the twins lay in a playpen next to us.

I wish I was a child again. I wish that I lived in that fantasy world where everything was fine.

That world was taken away from me 12 years too early.

And gosh, I wish I didn't have to have such a complicated life.

I silently eat my food until the twins wake up with a cry. Then, I grab Grace and walk to the living room.

Of course Lucas grabs Bethany and does the same thing.
