--Devyn's POV--

Friday. The beginning of the last weekend before school began.

I'd been participating in Week of Welcome, an orientation type program hosted by the campus. We were put into groups with people of different majors and did activities together. Two upperclassmen were assigned to lead the group activities.

On the night's agenda was a dance party held in the ballroom at a hotel a few miles away.

I wasn't really excited, dancing just wasn't my thing. But over the past few days I kind of made some friends within my Welcome group. Nikki and Selene were assigned to other groups so I was forced to be social.

There were twelve people in my group including me. I'd only really talked to two others.

Grace was a sociology major from out of state--Arizona, I think. Matthew was a political science major from San Diego.

I liked Grace because she was like me, quiet and always on her phone. The first day of activities we'd gone kayaking and everyone had a partner but us two. We paired up and after that we just sort of hung out together during every activity. We talked now and then, but when we were quiet it wasn't uncomfortable.

Matthew was the kind of guy that talked to everyone. He was probably the most jolly in the group. I think he mostly started talking to Grace and I because he felt bad for us. He noticed us lagging behind in each activity and just sort of struck up a conversation.

He and I actually had quite a bit in common, mostly musical artists. The two of us took it upon ourselves to share our music taste with Grace.

I threw on a long loose tank top and some tights, sizing myself up in the mirror. I put boots and some jewelry on, hoping my outfit would suffice.

Grace, Matthew, and I lived in the same building so we decided to meet in my room before walking to the parking lot to meet the rest of the group.

Selene and Nikki had gone off with their groups a few minutes before and I was glad to have the room to myself for once.

I sat on my desk chair with my phone in hand. A smile formed on my face when I saw I had a message from Calum.

Do you miss me? :).xx

Of course! I know you miss me too :p

I sent my reply and started munching on m&m's from Nikki's side of the desk.

A knock at the door made me jump in my seat. It was 7:56 according to my phone so I knew it was either Grace or Matthew.

"Hey," I said, opening the door.

"Hi," he smiled widely.

"Come on in. Sorry it's a mess," I blushed.

"It's alright," he laughed lightly. "I imagined it would be since there's three girls in here."

"Hey!" I swatted his arm.

We both laughed and sat in the desk chairs.

"Has Grace texted you?" He asked.

"Nope," I answered. "You're early though, so give her a few minutes."

"Sorry I'm early," he blushed a bit. "I don't take very long to get ready so I got bored sitting in my room."

"Same."

Someone knocked multiple times as if with a sense of urgency.

"Guess Grace is excited," I laughed as I got up to open the door.

"Hey, relax!" I said as I opened the door.

My heart stopped. It wasn't Grace at the door.

--Calum's POV--

"Surprise!" Alaska said, throwing her hands in the air.

"Oh my..." Devyn whispered, clearly shocked.

"You said you missed me," I smiled stepping closer to her.

"I can't believe it!" She smiled.

I grinned and Alaska smiled proudly. Operation Surprise was a success.

"Why didn't you tell me?" Dev asked, punching Alaska's arm lightly.

"It was a surprise, duh!" Alaska retorted.

"What's going on?" A guy came into view behind Devyn.

Um. What?

Devyn opened the door all the way and the guy eyed Alaska before taking in the boys and I.

"This is my sister," she gestured at Alaska. "And these are my friends."

Friends?

"I'm Alaska," she said, faking sweetness. "And who the fuck are you?"

The guy looked taken aback but laughed nervously.

"I'm Mathew," he smiled. "I'm in Devyn's wow group."

"Oh, that's right," Alaska groaned. "I forgot about that."

"What's a wow group?" Ashton asked.

"Wow stands for 'week of welcome.' I told Devyn to join so she could make friends," she laughed.

Devyn rolled her eyes and everyone laughed but me. Something about Matthew just didn't sit right.

Just call me jealous.

"Well to hell with the wow group," Michael said.

"Yeah," Luke agreed. "Come on let's go."

"Where are we going?" Devyn asked uncertainly.

"We came to surprise you and take you out to eat and... well I don't know where else," I finally spoke up.

Her eyes met mine and she looked unsure about what to do.

"We're going to a dance party," Matthew piped up.

Devyn looked at him then back at me, biting her lip nervously.

"What?!" Alaska burst out laughing, the boys snickered.

"You're definitely not going," Alaska said firmly. "Grab your shit, let's go."

"Excuse me," a voice said from the hallway behind us.

We moved aside and a girl walked through and into Devyn's room.

"Let me guess, another Wowie?" Alaska rolled her eyes.

"Yeah, this is Grace," Devyn gestured to the girl who was now scrolling through her phone.

Grace smiled at us politely before greeting Matthew.

"So..." Michael said. "Let's go!"

"I don't know if I should," Devyn said hesitantly. "I told the group leaders I would go to the party."

"Dev, the boys came all the way from LA for crying out loud," Alaska hissed.

"Come on," Luke urged.

"Yeah! Tell them you got sick," Ashton giggled.

"Fine," Devyn sighed.

"Are you sure you don't wanna go to the dance party?" Matthew asked, concerned.

He really need to fuck off. Like now.

"Could you just tell Wendy and Justin that I'm not feeling well?" She asked Matthew and Grace.

They both nodded slightly and waved goodbye to Grace.

"See you tomorrow then?" Matthew asked.

Dev nodded and half smiled at him.

Grace walked out of the door and past us without a word.

"Nice to meet you guys," Matthew smirked cockily on his way out.

What. The. Fuck.
