12. Creep
BobbyLos Angeles, CA Present
Sonny brushed his hand across his jet black greased hair. I watched him pace in front of me.
“There has got to be a way we can stop this before it snow balls! You’re supposed to be the “night and shining armor” not the bad boy.”
“Sonny it can be fixed.” I intervened. “Not a problem. Trust me, this will all be turned around soon enough.” I stood up from the make-up chair in the dressing room of STARS, taking another look at myself in the mirror.
“Everything look all right, Mr. Badeau?” the bleached blonde make-up artist asked.
I winked at her, “Great, my dear. Thank you.” Taking her hand I kissed it. She flushed, just like they all do.
“Excuse me, that will be all.” Sonny escorted the girl out. “I hope you have some answers for Rosdell.” He shut the door and turned to face me.
“We all know that he is going to ask about your situation with Jacinda, and the incident that took place the other night. You should probably address it before he even asks. That way it won’t seem like you’re trying to hide anything.”
“Relax Sonny, no worries. I know exactly what I have to do. They will all be eating out of the palm of my hand soon enough, including Miss Jacinda.” I flipped the collar up on my shirt and continued to gaze at myself in the mirror again.
Sonny took a seat on the couch and poured himself a glass of the complimentary champagne. “I have no doubt you can captivate your audience, and maybe even Rosdell, but Jacinda...” He chuckled. “I don’t think so.”
I turned to face Sonny, “As long as you have been my manager and seen me at work in the public eye, I honestly thought you were completely aware of my gifts?”
“A woman scorned is completely different, Boby. Winning her over may be a little out of your league.” He sipped the champagne.
“Is that a challenge?” I arched my brow.
Sonny shook his head, “You can take it however you like, Bobby. All I want is for you to be focused on the next thirty minutes with Rosdell, after that you can embark on any challenges you like.” He smirked. “But if you don’t mind me asking, what is your master plan?”
I sat back into the make-up chair. “Did you see Jacinda’s interview with Rosdell?”
“Yes, so?”
“Well, the difference between Jacinda and I is that she does not like to play her life in front of the media. She completely denied any involvement with me. I on the other hand do not mind the public eye, so I will deny nothing.” I smiled. “Rosdell wants to know about our relationship so I will give him just enough, and he will then accompany whatever I say. The fans will enjoy my plea for Jacinda’s heart, along with my apology, and they will both be mine again.”
Sonny leaned back into the sofa. “I see, I’m good with it, but I still don’t think it’s gonna get you anywhere with the girl.”
“Always underestimating me.” I chuckled.
He stood briskly, “Prove me wrong, Bobby prove me wrong.” He laughed. “Like I said, just focus on winning over the fans, and then you can worry about Miss Jacinda.”
I stood to meet him with a grin. “I will.” I shook his hand and walked him to the door.
“I’ll be watching from the side, and I’ll let Rosdell know that anything is a go, but to follow your lead of course.” He winked shut the door slowly behind him.
I gritted my teeth.
My life was ridiculous. I had never wanted this to get so out of control. I had a ping of guilt in my chest, and that was for what I was about to do. Honestly, I liked Jacinda. She was a beautiful charming girl and I had enjoyed her company, but I am afraid I had led her on.
I had been upset with my current fling at the time and Jacinda was like a breath of fresh air to my whirlwind relationship. Jacinda was there for me even though she was not aware of my circumstances.
I moved to take a seat in the chair again facing myself. I was Bobby Badeau, the actor, the singer, the heart throb. Yet my latest action would seem out of character for me if it was to spread through the tabloids. But in actuality it was normal for me, it was who I was. I was a womanizer. My latest conquest had been captured on film and by the eyes of Jacinda, whom thought she was my only one.
I sighed and rested my head back on the chair. I hated causing a skeptical, but I could not let my fans know what a horrible person I was. I had an obligation to them. They placed me on a pedestal, and I could not fall. Maybe I would get lucky and Jacinda would forgive me, but I doubted that.
A knock at the door interrupted my thoughts.
“Yes?”
The door opened and the bleached blonde appeared. “Sorry, but they’re ready for you on the set.” Her words were fumbled, she was obviously nervous.
“Then I must go.” I jumped out of my seat and walked briskly to the door. “But before I go...”
The girl froze. I lifted my hand to her cheek. “May I?” She nodded as if she was under a spell. I ran my fingers through her hair. “Can I ask you something?”
She nodded again, and I was sure she was holding her breath.
“If I was yours, and had done something horrible and possibly even unforgiving. Do you think you would take me back?”
She bit her lip, “Uh-huh...”
“Fabulous...” I dropped my hand from her cheek. “Now could you show me the way my dear?”
“Um...oh yea, sure.” She smiled bashfully and I followed her down the hallway to the cameras and bright lights.
The set was full of people. I took my seat across from the infamous Rosdell as another individual came up to mic me.
“Your manager told me to follow your lead, and I cannot wait to see what you have for me.” Rosdell winked over his purple glasses.
I smiled cordially as the ping hit me in the chest again.
“Um, sorry Mr. Badeau I need to touch you up some. The lights...”The blonde was in front of me again with a powder puff.
I nodded, anything to delay the inevitable. I sighed looking over the set, the lights beat down hot, with Rosdell reviewing his notes with a smirk. A part of me wanted to figure out another way, something that wouldn’t cause any problems for Jacinda.
“Okay, I think I’m done.” She smiled.
I returned the smile. As she moved out of my view, I saw Sonny standing to the side giving me a thumb’s up.
The director apprached us, “All right, you guys ready?”
I nodded, as did Rosdell, and the director stepped back. I took in a deep breath and exhaled. But all of a sudden, it came to me, a way that would not harm Jacinda or my career, well, not at first. Yes, this could work.
I glanced at Sonny who was still smiling and then back at Rosdell.
Yes, this would have to work...
“Rosdell in three, two, one...action!”
