The brightness of the light woke my leftover face. I was drooling on something metal and I felt it was making somewhat of an imprint on the side of my face. My eyes opened slightly confused, but then assured. My exhaustion from the day before must have gotten the best of me.

I sat up on the red velvet bed, and then realized that my pillow was the silver picture frame of me. I glanced at it again.

I sighed, and felt my tattered heart ache. It’s amazing that it still had rhythm after all the damage it had undergone, emotionally and physically. I’ve waited a good part of my life for it to perform its last note. But amazingly it had surprised me, just like everything else had in my life.

I jumped off the very high bed and placed the picture back on the desk amongst the other memories of my once perfect life.

I looked out the window over the desk that viewed the lake and pool below me. It must be early since there weren’t that many boats out, and no one was by the pool yet, but I did hear mumbled voices coming from downstairs.

I went out onto the catwalk and leaned over the banister to look over. My mom and dad were busy frying anything that wouldn’t move while my two grandmothers were working painstakingly on gravy and biscuits. The smell immediately invigorated me with mouth watering energy. I turned and hurried down the hallway to my actual bedroom.

It was at the end of the hallway with two arched French doors. I entered and at first glance it was glorious and made for a aristocrat. From the vaulted ceilings with angels painted upon it to the white ceramic tiles on the floor, it was draped with a little piece of heaven. The furniture was a gray marble with white sheer canapé that flowed over the bed. Twelve foot windows lined the South wall facing the lake that was accented with sheer gold curtains.

I wanted to jump into the feathered fluffy bed, but it was such a glorious day outside. My luggage had already been unpacked for me, but it always took a while to find things since I wasn’t home that often, I always forgot where things went. I dug through my drawers trying to find a bathing suit. Finally after the sixth drawer I found it. I ran into my bathroom, which was also my sanctuary.

The white heavenly theme continued. My bath tub could hold two and a half people comfortably. It was ridiculous, but I loved it and dreamed of it when I wasn’t here. I slipped into my lavender Guess bikini and then washed off the leftover make-up from the night before. I grabbed a pair of flip flops and headed downstairs.

“Well, good morning; I didn’t expect you to be up this early!” My mom walked towards me to greet me with a kiss on the cheek.

“You are so skinny, do they not feed you?” My grandma Lily quivered.

I glanced at the food layout before me on the marble bar for breakfast, “Well, guess I’ll be packing on a few pounds if you are going to cook like this every day.” I laughed as I took a piece of fruit. “I will take this but I want to work up an appetite for the rest.” I continued out the glass doors to the patio. My mom followed.

“I don’t think lying by the pool will work up an appetite, dear.”

“Jet skies!” I kept walking towards the pier. I loved the lake; I mean I always had liked it, but now I was in love with it. I could jump on the boat or the Jet Ski and take off all day on the lake. All alone. I loved to feel the wind in my face and my hair. No hustle and bustle here.

I reached to pull out a life jacket from under the seat of the Jet ski. I jumped on, fastened the life jacket and adjusted it to fit my waist. I cranked it up and hit the gas feeling the rush! I rode along the lake only speeding up when there was no one around. I still had no idea what time it was, and that was my favorite part.
