5. Fade Into You
Crystal blue... I had never seen eyes so blue... It was almost like I was watching from an outsider’s perspective. Like a movie had just began filming in this boring little town and I had a lead part. I had also just lucked up with the most irresistible costar. He was the definition of perfect. Everything about him made my palms sweat and my breathing uneven. Seeing him with the natural glow of the sunlight that was making a halo around him was a perfect angle for the camera to shoot. I bit my fingernail as I was in dream land.
Well, if there was a camera, and this was a movie. He looked so angelical. Except for that devilish smile he wore on his face. Still he was beautiful to me, I couldn’t help for wearing that same smile on my face.
Last night was well, unbelievable. I still found myself wondering if it even took place. It was so much like a blurred dream I had. The kind where you wake-up in the morning and know you were having an extraordinary dream, but can’t remember how it went exactly, because the details were a bit fuzzy. But this dream had to be real, because I was still staring at the handsome being in front of me.
He was tall, over six feet. You could tell he worked by the
ocean with his sun drenched skin. His hair was a deep brown, almost black, cut short. But those eyes, they were hypnotizing. Maverick Hartmann, he was nineteen. Mav was in the Coast Guard, stationed in Yorktown, Virginia. He was just in town for the weekend, and the weekend had just ended so he was about to head back to Yorktown. He told me the night before that he would be leaving the following day, but it didn’t phase me. Something told me it wouldn’t be long and he would be back.
The night before had been very spontaneous for me. A few of the girls and I were planning to go to this teen club that was in Hickory. Hickory was about forty-five minutes away. A few weeks earlier all of us had gone to the teen club when I was free from my over possessive boyfriend. The club was dark with black lights everywhere and they only served soft drinks of course. Us girls mainly stayed on the dance floor, and didn’t even talk to any guys that were there. All we cared about was dancing, and that was pretty much how this night had gone as well.
Except this time it was only fun for about an hour or so, and then Allison invited us to her house to stay the night since her parents were out of town. The bonus was that apparently a few nights ago, her brother and his friends had thrown a party and there seemed to be some left over drinks. So of course all the girls were ready to ditch the teen dance party and head back to town.
When we arrived back to Allison’s, apparently the word had spread. A few cars were already in the driveway, and there seemed to be a parade of cars behind ours. I thought Allison was going to flip!
“Who called all of these people?”
“Relax Allison; it’s just a few of the guys.” Audrey said in a calming voice.
“All right, but no one else. And everyone has to spend the night if they are going to be drinking! Okay?”
We all nodded in unison, trying to hold back our laughs. Rarely did Allison ever get upset or angry, so it was kind of funny to see her face turn a bright shade of red. We all jumped out of the car. Audrey and Allison walked up the drive to greet the other guests and give them the “party rules” while something else caught my eye. There were two cars sitting in the driveway, one was a BMW, I wasn’t much on foreign cars. The other was a Camero, silver with T-Tops and black racing stripes. I had admired it weeks earlier when I had last seen it parked in Allison’s driveway.
Now that was a car. My dad had always taught me about cars while I was growing
up. I had other family members that drag raced. So I was a little familiar with this beautiful piece of machinery. I walked over to the car to see if I could tell if it was a six cylinder or eight.
