Chapter 25.

Zulfiyya and I met up at McDonalds later. The halal sign on the door welcomed us in. A few minutes after standing in the queue, the man at the till called us forward. Romeo greeted us and took our order down. A delux cajun burger and chips was just what the doctor didn't order. But I didn't care about dieting and that type of thing. I believed that if you ate everything in moderation, you would be fine. You didn't have to be a size zero to be perfect. Allah created us to be exactly as we were and all His creations were unquestionably perfect.

Zulfiyya and I took a table next to the window on the other side of the store. A large flat screen T.V. had the orders that were being perpared and the orders that needed to be collected on it. Another assistant was also calling out the numbers of the ready orders so Zulfiyya and I didn't worry about paying too much attention to that.

"So what's going on, Deli? You seem excited about something." Zulfiyya wiggled her eyebrows at me.

I grinned and my words tumbled out in the wrong order, "Mother knows! She didn't seem upset. Even Ismet seemed happy! I'm scared Zuzu. How will Dad react? Ya Allah..."

"Calm down, woman! Tell me everything that happened clearly."

"Oh my gosh... From where do I begin?"

"From the beginning, young one."

"Yes, right. Okay so-"

Before I could continue to tell Zulfiyya my story, an employee called us.

"Order number two hundred and forty two?" The skinny guy motioned for us to collect our food. I jumped up in glee. I was so hungry at that moment. "Hi, my name is Ali. Enjoy your food, ladies." Ali winked at Zulfiyya and I. What a flirt. To avoid being rude, I simply smiled back and left the store with Zulfiyya at my heels.

I barely took my place on the park bench next to Zulfiyya before she started yelling at me.

"Astagfirullah, Delnaz! Really? I would have ignored the guy and walked away."

"Shame on you, the man was just trying to be polite. Male kindness is so foreign to us these days that we mistake it for flirting."

"You're truly blind Delnaz, you know that? The guy winked at you. Fuad would have beaten him up if he saw that."

Before Zulfiyya could ramble on further, I changed the topic.

"Anyway, about the thing I wanted to tell you... I told my mother about Fuad."

Zulfiyya spat out her cooldrink, "You what?!"

"She pushed me to tell her what was on my mind, okay?" I gave Zulfiyya all the details about my conversation with my mother.

"You just told her like; I have a boyfriend?" Zulfiyya looked at me incredulously.

"Hey, don't judge! I know. I also thought that I sounded stupid, but believe me when I say that I was nervous as hell. I was surprised that I even managed to say the things that I did."

"Wait till Yıldız hears about this..."

"Don't tell her just yet, Zu. When she gets back from the country we'll all meet up and I'll tell her."

Zulfiyya grinned at me and engulfed me in a tight squeeze of a hug. "I'm so proud of you for being brave, Delnaz. You finally told your mother, at least. My parents have no clue about Zülfü..."

"Don't stress babe. You will just find yourself telling them at the right time."

Zulfiyya quickly got over her dull moment and began to chatter excitedly about what Fuad meeting my parents was gonna be like.

"You'll have to be there on the day, you know. You're the sister I never had and we've known each other for so long and we're close. I need you there. You'll be there, won't you?"

"Stop blabbering, silly. Of course I will," Zulfiyya squeezed my hand reassuringly. "I promise."

"Thank you. This meeting might have to wait, though..."

"Why?"

"With our final exams coming up, there will be no time!"

"Oh shoot... I forgot about that. Oh well... I'm not going to stress. I'll do my best and just keep swimming."

"Good for you, Dory. Good for you."

"Hold on, if I'm Dory, who's my husband-fish?"

Now it was my turn to look at Zulfiyya incredulously.

"Zülfü of course!"

I swear we talked about such messed up things. We really were a crazy pair of best friends.
