Chapter 28.

Fuad's POV

School re-opened and everybody fell back into their routines. It was as if we had never stopped living like prisoners of Antalya High School. I hardly saw Delnaz and even when we were near each other on the corridors, she would avoid me. Her parents had made a demand and I had to be compliant. They were just trying to do things the right way.

Football was at it's ultimate high. I was really enjoying the sport and so were my friends. Rizvan and I spent a lot of time together and really bonded over the game. Cihan was hardly around and it was obvious that he and Yıldız were closer than they'd ever been.

Final exams were around the corner. I started preparing myself from the first day of the final term of grade 12. I wanted to pass and I wanted to pass well.

I needed a better job and since Delnaz and I were in such a serious relationship, I wanted to be able to support her one day, solely, given that we both decided to take the next step in our relationship. My mother also needed my support and I planned to be with her through every step of the way.

"Hello?"

"Hey Delnaz. It's Fuad..."

Despite our busy schedules and sad stories we tried to make time for each other. However, I couldn't help but feel as if we were just growing apart. Growing into two completely different people with different interests; interests that did not include each other.

"Hi Fuad. How are you?"

Once we exchanged pleasantries, I got down to business.

"How are your parents?"

The silence on the other side of the line indicated that I was hovering over a touchy topic, a topic that would end in a possible argument.

"They're fine. How is your Mum?" Delnaz was simply trying to be polite. She was obligated to ask but was probably kicking herself for entering such lethal territory.

"She's fine. Eager to meet you. Always pestering me about it."

More silence.

"I know how this is, Fuad. I know that it's difficult... But stay strong, okay? Once this weekend is over we might be able to meet each other like we normally would."

"Might? What do you mean, Delnaz? Don't your parents want us to spend time together?"

"Of course they do," Delnaz sighed. "They're just getting used to this whole thing. Anyway, I have to get back to studying. I'm on my last section of maths."

I smiled. My angel was such a hardworker. "Sure. Good luck with the studying."

"Bye. I love you, Altan."

After packing my books away early that evening, I checked my phone. Football practice would continue as normal after exams, according to Cihan. That meant that I had to be at school even though matriculants didn't need to go back after writing their final exams.

Great.

I was planning to spend those few weeks of bliss with Delnaz. Our results would be given to us in the following year and then we'd have to start stressing about college applications, among other things then. Sure, football was one of my main priorities but I wasn't sure that I really wanted Coach Ilhan pushing me like he usually did. Cihan, Rizvan and I always got the worst pushing. I always wondered why.
