Chapter 35.

Delnaz's POV

It was hard to control the butterflies in my stomach and the urge to engulf Fuad in a bone-crushing hug. Why was I nervous for this crazy boy? He was the one meeting my parents, not the other way around. Everytime he spoke, my heart pounded in my chest. Ir was difficult to gauge Father's impression on Fuad. He didn't seem to be too pushy and intimidating. If anything, Father seemed to want to make a good impression on Fuad. Ismet giggled when Fuad made funny faces at him and said cute little nothings to him now and then. Mother seemed pleased by this.

Zulfiyya and Yıldız passed quite comments to me and to each other everytime Fuad spoke. Teasing me was not calming my nerves but they didn't seem to care. The waves of tension hit me like a truck. Things only got worse when there was a loud knocking on our front door. Afsana excused herself and scurried away to answer it.

"Go with her, Delnaz," Father said.

My stomach lurched when I saw who stood at the door. It was Göksu trying to make an evil entrance into my house. Afsana was tiny in front of her and easily intimidated in that respect. I marched over to Göksu and folded my arms.

"What do you want?" I spoke in the sternest, most annoyed voice I could muster.

Göksu smiled at me mockingly. "Well, well. Delnaz Aliyeva. Such a cute little thing. Where is Fuad?" She barked at me.

"That's none of your business, now leave."

Göksu chuckled evilly. "Look her you little twit," She said, waving a brown envelope in my face, "This is adressed to your dear father. I would like to give it to him, myself."

My head pounded and I felt dizzy. Yıldız and Zulfiyya stood in the hallway, angry and ready to beat up Göksu. However, I was surprised when they let her pass straight into the living room. Afsana looked at me helplessly. I pulled her by the wrist back into the living room. I recited a silent prayer and hoped that Göksu would think twice before wreaking havoc.

I stood at the doorway of the living room. Fuad didn't even flinch when he saw Göksu. What was going on?

"Hello, everyone. I'm Göksu. Which one of you is Delnaz's father?" She looked between Uncle Reşit and Father.

"Delnaz?" Father said looking at me. "Is this your friend?"

"No."

"Then how dare she barge into this house?" Father was heading straight into a rage.

"Oh dear. Calm down Mr. Aliyev," Göksu sneered, "I have something you might want to see," Göksu handed the envelope to Father and shot me a look of triumph.

Ya Allah... If Göksu just handed Father those photos of Fuad and I, we were doomed.

"What on earth is this?" Father held up a picture of two unicorns running down a rainbow.

There was silence in the room, then Mother began to laugh and soon, everybody was doubled over. Fuad grinned and winked at me. I would have smiled back but I was too confused to do anything. I forgot that I was even holding onto Afsana's wrist. I let go of it and looked at her.

"Do you know what's going on?"

Afsana shook her head, her eyes stilled wide with fear.

Gösku grabbed the envelope out of Father's hand and poured thr pictures onto the coffee table. There were more pictures of unicorns.

"You wanted to show me these ridiculous pictures?" Father stood up, towering over Göksu. "I don't know who you are but I'm failing to understand how someone could possibly have the audacity to come here, uninvited and then waste our time. Please leave, right this instant!"

Göksu flinched at Father's booming voice, gathered her unicorn photos, then headed straight for the main door.

Yıldız and Zulfiyya walked up to Göksu and pushed her out of the doorway before fist bumping and slamming the door shut on her evil little face. They then turned back to Afsana and I.

"You two and Fuad have a lot of explaining to do," I then broke into a grin and hugged my two best friends, pulling Afsana in with us.

Back in the living room, Mother decided to serve dessert and us, girls, decided to help ourselves to Fuad's tiramisu and chocolate ice-cream afterwards. Uncle Reşit couldn't stop talking about how silly Father looked holding up a photo of unicorns and neither could I. After dessert, things quietened down and Father said that Fuad and I should spend some time together, seeing that we were both dressed up. I was so surpised. Father was normally so strict but he was finally letting me hang out with Fuad. We didn't have to go creeping around in secret and being cautious of snitches like Göksu. It felt good.

No, it felt great.'''''''

The evening was spent with Yıldız, Zuzu and I listening in on Afsana's conversations with Hassan over the phone. They were so in love that it made my heart ache to think of them separated.

"I love you," Afsana hung up.

"You two are so great together," Yıldız commented.

"Guys, I have an idea!" I squealed. "Since you all somehow beat Göksu at her own game today, I think it's safe for us to all go out on a date tomorrow, what do you say?"

The group cheered in agreement. All we had to do was call up the boys and ironically ask them out. It was about 7:30PM. Fuad usually phoned me around 8 o' clock. Too bad, I couldn't wait to ask him. It had been almost a month since we had gone out.

Exams and my parents' rules had done anything but hurl our relationship into a ditch.

If anything, the forces pulling us apart only brought us closer together.
