"What the fuck is Dead By Daylight?" Simon asks, in regard to today's options of FIFA 16, Rocket League and Dead By Daylight.I pick up the game's cover and examine it. "I dunno. It says we need fiv- four people. It just changed. Anyone up for it?"
Sometimes the covers do that. Change their writing. The cover for Dead By Daylight is actually kinda creepy and sorta grim, but I don't often get a change, and basing it off the cover, I'm not letting them go without me.
"I'm down," JJ says. "New game."
"Same." Josh nods.
"I'm in," I say quickly. "Before I get pushed out of this."
"I'm joining," Simon adds, as Ethan opens his mouth to speak.
"Simooon," Ethan whines. "I wanted to go."
Simon sticks his tongue out at Ethan childishly, making him laugh. "I'll go Rocket League," Ethan offers.
"Same," Tobi adds.
"Same, I guess," Harry says, confused.
"Let's go," Simon says, before stepping into the portal.
Josh, JJ and I quickly follow him, waving goodbye to the others.
Simon's face is slowly paling as he reads the debrief when I stumble out of the portal.
"Basically," Simon says, looking up at us from the debrief. "There are generators around the map. We have to fix a certain amount and escape through one if the escapes at either end of the map. There is a killer trying to put us all on hooks and kill us."
It takes a moment to sink in.
"Someone's trying to kill us?" I ask faintly.
"This was a mistake," Josh says, shaking his head. "We shouldn't have come here."
I glance at the portal. "The portal's deactivated. The only way out is through."
"If we're fixing the generators," JJ starts slowly. "Who's trying to kill us?"
I glance at my watch. It reads how many more generators are left, and all the players playing. I freeze. "Shit, shit, shit, shit, shit!" I curse loudly. "Look at your watches!"
"Oh, fuck," Simon curses softly.
"It's-" JJ starts in shock, not finishing his sentence.
I can't blame him. This is after all the man that stabbed him in the back.
"It's Gudjondaniel," Josh says grimly.
Suddenly, this doesn't feel like a game anymore. Our lives have always been games, this isn't, though.
"Anything about respawns?" I ask, dreading the answer.
"No," Simon replies quietly.
"That's it!" JJ shouts. "I'm gonna kill this motherfucker today!"
"JJ," Simon says, placing a hand on his shoulder. "You can't. He's got a chainsaw or an axe or something, and is a giant in comparison to us in this game. We're unarmed and smaller than him. We can't kill him, just escape."
JJ visibly deflates, but his fists are clenched. "None of you bitches better die on me."
"We won't," Josh assures him.
We are each teleported away, into a dark, dark forest.
The thought that Gudjondaniel could be behind any of these trees...
