"How're we doing this?" I ask, twisting my sword."How about we all get a partner and we have to fight them. We just progress up with a different partner each time and we take turns fighting," Rob proposes.
"Good idea." Jerome nods with a grin. "Let's draw names."
We write down our names and take turns picking one. I get partnered with Nooch, and we remove my name from the pile.
I frown to myself. Nooch is one of the better people at PVP, as am I. One of us will be going out early and I have no intention of losing my first battle in front of the Sidemen.
Matt grins at me as we ready ourselves. "Good luck."
"Same, man," I reply with a grin as the others form a debatable circle around us.
Most of us here love the thrill of a fight. The adrenaline pumping through your veins and the rush.
"No mercy," Rob announces. "All weapons allowed. No leaving the circle. No potions or golden apples. No flint and steel or TNT."
Matt ruefully hands a golden apple to Lachlan, who's closest to him and he places it behind him.
"Ready?" Rob clarifies. "Alright, three, two, one, go!"
I pull the bow off my back and immediately fire an arrow at Matt. He bats it away with his sword and moves forward. I let off three more arrows, which he blocks before slinging my bow across my back and unsheathing my sword.
"Go Vikk!" someone shouts.
We charge at the same time and he swings at my head. I duck and swipe at his side, which he darts back to avoid. I dodge an attack and get behind Nooch, sweeping my blade at his feet.
He jumps over it and swings at my face before I can bring up my sword. I try to move back but he still manages to open up a long cut across my cheek.
I laugh as I take a few steps back, carelessly wiping away the blood trickling down my face. A few of the Sidemen protest behind me.
It's impossible to describe how amazing it feels. To fight. I feel so Awake. Like every muscle is extra sensitive and ready to defend or attack. The pure rush. It's absolutely incredible.
I wipe the blood off my hand on my leg and charge back at Nooch. He meets me and we exchange a flurry of attacks and blocks until I finally get a solid slice at Matt's leg, but he responds quickly by opening up a gash on my upper arm.
One of the problems with fighting Nooch is that he's very quick. His speed and agility are his main assets, not his actual skill with a blade. Slow him down, and you've won.
I press my attack, gaining another deep gash on Matt's other leg. He struggles to keep up with my attacks and I manage to disarm him. I don't hesitate before sweeping his legs out from beneath him and stabbing him through the heart.
Nooch's body disappears, leaving behind his gear.
I turn around, being congratulated enthusiastically by my Minecraft friends. But I don't pay attention to them, I level my gaze at the Sidemen, who look beyond shocked at this point.
"That's the game," I say levelly, the others falling silent. "If you want to play, be my guest."
I turn back to the others, an easy fake smile falling into place. "Mitch, Tyler, you're up."
Matt reappears at the beds and comes over. He shakes hands with me, grinning. "Nice one."
"Good game," I reply.
