Nick stared at me for a second, frozen. That facial motion just told me he probably forgotten, he gave me the oh shoot faint look.

"W-We were suppose to go for a date tonight," he gasps, urgently pulling out his phone from his butt pocket. "She's going to kill me thinking I forgot it."

I rolled my eyes out of his sight, I couldn't believe he'd worry about his date right now and how she might be mad at him rather than considering her concern for Denise's condition.

"It's way past our date, could you stay here with my mom? I think I'm going to go to her place just to check on her, she's not replying," he explains, sounding scared and nervous.

"Nick calm down, she probably forgotten," I tell him lamely, "Does she even know Denise is in the hospital?"

He completely ignores me and goes out the room.

Did he just walk out on me? I think to myself, unbelievable.

He came back in shortly, "She's not picking up my calls, I think I have to go check on her."

I really wanted to tell him if he goes to check on her I will leave this moment, except, who am I to say that I ask myself, instead I said, "Nick, you're leaving your mom for someone that probably doesn't waste her brain to think of your family."

"Don't talk about her like that," He barks back at me instantly, so defensive and mad, even. Maybe I sounded a little rude in my tone, I was shocked though.

"Nick..." I tried to call him.

"I'll be back, if my mom wakes up, just tell her I went out for a bit," He says calmly, then finally stepping out. Rapid, so fast I didn't get the chance to stop him.

I couldn't believe that just happened. I sat back down, did I sound desperate asking him to stay? Why should I even care? He should be staying for his mother's sake.

My angriness at him had gotten me to fall asleep. When I woke up, Denise was already up eatting an orange and some other assortments with her breakfast tray on her serving table.

A grin appears on her lips, "Good morning sunshine."

"Good morning, you should've woken me up," I tell her, getting up to stretch.

"Oh don't worry sweet heart, the volunteers this morning came in with the food and the doctor will be back in a moment," She said, continuing to eat out of her plastic cup.

"That's good, did he permit you to leave yet?" I asked her, adjusting her pillow and blanket.

She shook her head no, "He says he'll wait for you or someone else to wake up to explain., by the way, where's Nick?"

That was soon to be expected.

"Oh uh... He went home to get some stuff, he probably fallen asleep there," I chuckle, making my words sound true.

She looked at me skeptically then shrugs it off. But as of on cue, Nick comes in through the doors, wiped out in an entire new outfit.

"Hey mom, how are you feeling?" Nick walks near, close to his mother giving her a quick peck on the cheek.

"Much better sweet heart," Denise smiles, adjusting herself back on the bed after the greetings.

"I just went in to check on with the doctor, he says you're good to go," Nick tells her, picking up her duffle bag and starting to take out an outfit for her.

"Oh fantastic," Denise pushes away the serving table and hops out of bed, "I'm ready to leave."

I smile and helped her out of bed, "Speaking of, I better head home, I still got to shower and meet up with a friend."

"We'll see you at home?" Denise asks, looking for confirmation in my face as she holds me by my elbows.

I nodded with a smile, "Of course. I'll see you soon."

"Alright then, thank you for staying the night Selena," Denise smiles and gives me a kiss on the cheek, "Have a good time with your friend, get Nick to give you a lift."

I turned to Nick, who gave a little sympathetic and apologetic eyes, I turned back to her shaking my head, "I think Nick will be busy, it's fine."

"At least have him call you a cab," Denise tells me.

I look at the time, realizing I was really on a tight schedule. I just nodded and told her I'll let Nick get me a cab. She finally goes in to the bathroom and change while Nick walked me to the lobby. Our walk was silent, even in the elevator was total awkwardness.

We were out by the line up of yellow taxi cabs that awaited for pick ups. I was planning to turn around to thank him for escorting him out, just then he calls me.

"Selena..." Nick started, I turned around seeing him with his hands in his jean pockets looking hesitant and staring down at his pair of leather shoes.

"I told Denise you went home to pick up some stuff but you fell asleep," I tell him, before opening the yellow cab door.

"Wait!" Nick calls, holding the car door, "I'm sorry about yesterday."

I nodded cooly, "See you later." I said before hopping in the cab.
