"Dan?" Phil asked chirpily, sitting almost on top of him.
"Yeah?" Dan half laughed.
"Can we go to the pet shop?"
"We're not allowed dogs," Dan warned.
"I know. I want a fish," Phil told him.
Dan sighed and got up, "sure, we can get a fish,"
Dan gathered his things, making sure he took money.
They finally managed to wave down a taxi and of they went.

As soon as they entered the pet shop Phil was extremely excited. He wandered around talking to all of the animals in different voices, although he didn't go near the big snakes; they scared him.
They said hi to the hamsters and the Guinea Pigs. Phil stroked a really soft rabbit and Dan promised that they would get one in the future. They looked at dog toys and all the weird accessories they sold for the poor animals.
As they were looking at all the fish, hands interlocked, an older couple walked past; the woman smiled and carried on but her husband stopped.
"Are you two a couple?"
I was almost a regular question for them but this was different. His tone was icy and poisonous.
"You shouldn't be doing that here, there are children," he hissed.
Phil squeezed Dan's hand as hard as he could.
"Harry," his wife whispered and gave him a warning look.
"Disgusting," the man, Henry, muttered as he was pulled away by his wife.
Dan stood in shock while Phil still clung to his hand, close to tears.
"Dan, I want to go home," he said weakly.
They walked through the car park to get to the main road when they were stopped.
"I'm extremely sorry about my husband," the woman said, she looked distraught, "he, uh, isn't well educated on topics such as these. I'm so sorry honey," she said, noticing the look on Dan's face and the tears on Phil's.
Dan only nodded.
"Did you get what you were looking for? You were looking for a fish, right?"
"We didn't get it. We're just going home instead," Dan explained.
"Don't be ridiculous, come on," she said sweetly.
She lead them through the shop and stayed with them while Phil chose a fish and a tank and all the stuff they needed to go in it.
At the checkout the woman pulled out her bank card and Dan stopped her, "you don't need to pay for us,"
"Nonsense! Don't be silly, it's the least I could do,"
