Jake's eyes were comforting, as he stared at his long lost best friend. His index finger reached out to Grace's cheek, collecting her tear.
"Especially you, Grace." Grace stared at her best friend as he only held the look of empathy and comfort.
"Whats wrong, Grace?" He asked her gently.
Grace kept quiet as she looked ahead, the breeze tackling her rogue tears.
"Is it Valerie?" He asked slowly.
Grace only kept her mouth shut in response. Jake breathed out as he stared ahead. He knew how Valerie was like, he had seen it himself. He never understood why Valerie would do such things to Grace. He would always wonder but had his doubts.
"Even after a few years," he paused "wow." He breathed out.
"Why aren't you at school?" Grace asked quietly.
"Why do you think?" He asked turning to face her, as her eyes averted towards him.
"You know when they say you're best friend can sense things," Grace nodded her head "yeah, well I had a feeling something was wrong." He paused.
"Then I was about to go to your house, when I saw a park nearby. I always knew you loved parks and the breeze. Plus this one looked quite calm and cool. Totally something you'd want to go too." Grace's sides perked up slightly.
"Then I found you here." His grey eyes held only warmth and friendliness.
"I wonder where your other best friend is." He thought with a playful tone.
"She's probably at school. Doesn't have these instincts like I do." He flashed a set of teeth feeling happy.
"You should, go to school." Grace spoke gently.
"When did you start caring for school?" He asked feigning shock.
"Besides it's not cool to leave your best friend out alone." Jake admitted as he fixed himself on the swing.
"So, don't tell me to leave you alone." Grace shook her head slowly at her best friend's habits.
"You haven't changed." She smiled at him.
"There's that smile." He praised as Grace smiled at him turning to the front again.
"Looks like Grace isn't here." A girl spoke as Evangeline looked sick but seemed to have focussed.
"She was doing so well, coming to school. Is she bunking off?" Evangeline turned to face the girls who were chattering.
"What do you mean Grace, is 'bunking off'?" Evangeline curiously asked.
"I just assumed that she isn't here, she'd probably be missing school like normal."
"Normal?" Evangeline repeated.
"Uh, yeah." The girl thought.
"You can't assume things, you know." Evangeline spoke.
"Do you know where she is?" One of the girls asked.
"No, she could be sick." Evangeline shrugged, trying to make her point.
"And what if she isn't?"
Evangeline turned the other way, as she was confused. Confused at the sudden fact that her best friend wasn't at school today and she didn't even know the reason why.
"Alright students, focus please." The home room teacher called, catching everyone's attention.
Role call had begun, when the time for Grace's name came, he scanned the room not seeing her. Silently dismissing it, he breathed out.
"Oh Grace, you were doing pretty well as well." He shook his head muttering to himself.
After role call, Evangeline silently prayed that Grace was okay and not in harms way, after her phone call yesterday she was pretty upset; Grace had rescheduled. That didn't mean that Grace shouldn't have not come school today. Evangeline exhaled as the bell rang. Gathering her things, she made her way to her first lesson.
Science had arrived and Mrs Rollins was at her desk reading off a note from a student. Her brows were furrowed and she didn't lose the concentration gleaming throughout her eyes. Giving a curt nod, the student sat down as students came piling in to the classroom.
Griffin had taken his seat and pushed his hair back as it came back to where it was at the start, above his face. Mrs Rollins awaited a few more minutes until the rest of the class came and took their seats.
"Has anyone seen, Miss Science today?" Everyone didn't say a word. "At all?" She arched a brow as people shook their heads.
"Hm, I hope she's okay." Mrs Rollins spoke with concern in her tone.
Griffin scrunched his brows slightly as Lila had taken her seat. She wasn't even talking today, surprisingly. No cocky attitude or anything, she seemed like...a normal student.
"Alright, class. You are dismissed." Mrs Rollins indicated that the lesson was over, students rushed out heading to their next lessons not wanting to be caught up in a crowd and go late to their classes.
Grace was seated with Jake in mere silence as the two were pondering over a few things.
"How long has it been since you've last played soccer?" Jake asked wonderingly.
At first Grace's answer was a shrug, but she continued with a thoughtful glance.
"Perhaps, three years." Jakes eyes widened slightly, in surprise.
"Wow. Three years?" He asked astonishingly.
"How'd you still make the team?"
"I suppose it's determination and trying to work hard." Grace admitted.
"It takes a long time, but you're Grace Science, mastermind at the sport of foot." Grace laughed at Jake's choice of words.
"You're Jake, the master of the touchdown game." Grace joked.
"I'm so happy you said that, Science. You know that football has always been an idealistic choice for me." Jake nodded his head,
"I just hope one day that the team I joined right now, are victorious."
"What position did you used to play?"
"Tackler." Jake nodded his head.
"In middle school, do you remember when I'd always be the centre?" Grace nodded her head. "Out of random." Jake chuckled slightly.
"Then there'd be Kingston Martins." (A/N: Another character from another book of mine)
"He was always a strong player out on the field." Jake reminisced.
"But that didn't stop anyone from actually kicking his butt and setting him straight out of the field." Jake smiled to himself.
"I guess we all needed a push to actually see our true worth." Jake turned his head slowly towards Grace.
"Even the potentials that we may not see in ourselves." He paused. "They are always bought to light in the end."
