• brendon sat opposite the two other boys who were silently eating their pancakes. everyone was enjoying it too much to actually stop and communicate with each other.
he could see that josh didn't have his binder on, which was good news, because he really needed a break from that. instead he was wearing an oversized shirt with an oversized sweater on top, no one but brendon would realise he wasn't wearing anything underneath (because with a binder on josh didn't really wear baggy clothes, he liked shirts and tank tops, neither of which would hide his large chest on their own.)
also, tyler was smiling slightly, looking rather mischievous, or was that just his happy face?
both of the boys looked very pretty. josh's read hair was a mess but nevertheless made him look adorable, meanwhile tyler was a lot more formally presented but cozy looking. tyler just seemed like that guy you hug and it would just make you feel so happy, yeah?
they'd had a lazy two days as their days off work had finally come back into sync, they didn't have the same jobs and lived in different places but they met up when they could.brendon laughs out of the blue, catching his friends' attention.
"josh, remember that time you tried football? i told you that you were too small but you never listened."tyler giggles, and josh hides his face in embarrassment. "ugh, yeah. i should've. those boys were like a foot taller than me and smelled of sweat. i can't believe you just stood there for an hour laughing at me getting crushed by these teenage boys i didn't even know when i was like thirteen." that was before josh came out as trans, at the time he was in the middle of repressing it.
he actually first came out to brendon when he was almost fifteen, and brendon obviously happily accepted him and used his correct name and pronouns when he could (he didn't want to out his friend to anyone, that seemed ridiculous to him). josh then told everyone else about a year later, luckily his family was fully supportive. he lost a few friends along the way, but it was okay, he was definitely better off without them.
now, six years later he'd finally managed to save up enough money and start taking testosterone, now five months on hormones and brendon had never been prouder. his twenty year long friendship with joshua hadn't altered in respect at all.
"it was funny. you had a black eye by the time it ended. you looked battered, being your best friend it was my job to make you embarrassed in front of fit guys."
"fuck of brendon. remember that one time you tried gymnastics?-"
"josh, no-"
"-yeah, and your fat ass fell and landed on that girl you had a crush on. remember her? and a few days later-"
"-josh!-"
"-you went to go and apologise because- talk about a crush- you crushed her leg and then you took it a step too far and tried to kiss her."
tyler was laughing quietly at the pair, brendon going a light shade of red. "i was twelve and lost in the moment. that's what a lot of twelve year olds do."
"wow, how long have you two been boyfriends?" the brunet innocently asks.
"almost twenty one years." josh smiles, then pauses. "t-tyler. i'm not saying this again, b-brendon and i are really only just friends."
brendon stays silent, and tylers laugher dies down.
now he felt kind of sad. after josh saying that... well, whenever he said anything like that... it just made him kinda sad, you know? he wasn't really sure why and never until now did he think about it, he just seemed a bit repulsed to thinking of josh as 'just a friend.'
"thanks for the pancakes and the lovely start to my day, guys." tyler thanks the two best friends, not facing any direction they were sat, but neither of them really minded. "i'll g-go now. if you want. i-i'll just leave you be." the burnet hesitantly stands up, but josh takes his hand before he could go anywhere, making tyler flinch a little at first before settling.
his hand felt like soft grasp, it wasn't a tight grip and neither was it necessarily them intertwining their fingers together anyway, it was only a brush but enough to make tyler pause. brendon could feel his heart speed up a tiny bit.
yeah, tyler had said that brendon and josh would be cute boyfriends, but now the oldest was starting to enjoy the thought of josh and tyler together. just them two. cuddling. and soon, the thought of josh being 'just a friend' seemed to be a little less of a problem. brendon smirks to himself a little, still quiet. tyler and josh should date, he'd have no problem with that.
"don't go. stay." josh insists, the blind boy sitting back down. "both brendon and i have the day off today, you can hang out with us for a while... i-if you haven't got something better to be doing?"
tyler shakes his head. "no! no, i don't! id love to stay. b-but i think it's just kinda inconvenient, you know? me being blind and all, i can't always help myself. i'm sorry. i'm like looking after a child."
the other boys frown, looking over at each other, both feeling quite shattered.
"ty, it's fine." josh forces a smile, looking up at the youngest boys face, he seemed so calm. "you can stay! you're not an inconvenience at all. neither me or brendon mind." the raven haired boy feels a grin form on his face. it was so nice seeing josh like this. so soft.
"o-ok, i guess."
oh, and tyler was absolutely fucking lovely.
