*Spencer's POV*
I stand in silence, hoping I had heard her wrong. It can't be true, it can't.
My body feels numb, from any pain or feeling.
I must have heard her wrong, she must be mistaken. Toby would never do that, never.
I've known him for as long as I can remember. He loves me and even though my father wasn't keen on him, he tried. He tried for me.
I remember the first time they met, it wasn't a good experience.
*flashback*
"Hello, Mr Hastings. I'm Toby Cavanaugh. Your daughter has told me so much about you," Toby smiles, putting his hand in front to shake my fathers hand.
"Has she? Because every time I see you two together you have your tongue down my daughters throat," he remarks, ignoring Toby's gesture of shaking his hand.
Toby's eyes widen and he takes a step back.
"Peter! Be nice to the young man," mom says, slapping his arm.
"Mr Hastings, I care so much for Spencer. She's special," he states, looking at me with a grin on his face.
"I know she is. That's why I protect her from stupid boys like you," he growls, his face very serious.
"Dad," I huff. "Give him a chance," I plead.
"Why would I? What is so special about him?" He asks, as if Toby wasn't in the room.
My mom has her head hung in shame. My dad has always been protective over Melissa and I but he is being extra harsh today.
"Toby is smart, funny, charming and so much more. Why can't you just listen to him?" I say, getting a little angry at my dads disrespect.
"I don't care about that. Leave my daughter alone," he warns Toby before walking up the stairs and leaving my mom, Toby and I in the living room.
*End of Flashback*
My dad always had something against Toby. Toby had never done anything wrong but he was always harsh when it came to him.
"Spencer?" Melissa gently rubs my arm, trying to calm me down. I hadn't realised I had been crying. Just thinking of that day, it made me so angry that he wouldn't give Toby a chance. Toby accepted that, he would never kill someone.
"It wasn't Toby. He never done it," I cry, shaking my head. My mom sniffles, pulling me into a hug.
"Your father loved you so much, Spencer. He didn't want you around a guy like Toby," she mumbles into my hair.
"It wasn't him mom. It couldn't have been," I weep. The tears don't seem to stop falling from my eyes as Melissa hugs us both.
"Spence, it was. I'm so sorry baby," my mother whispers into my hair, beginning to cry herself.
