*Spencer's POV*
"Make sure you have your assignment in by Friday!" My professor shouts as the students rush out of class.
I used to love school but since I got to college, it's just boring. It's not the same and it's a lot harder. Although I'm still the top of my class.
Hanna, Emily and Aria have been texting in the group chat the whole time I was in class and my phone was going off constantly. I suppose it wasn't my fault but it was so embarrassing.
I parked my car ten minutes away from Hollis because you can never find a space at the campus.
It's now two pm so as I walk past The Brew I run in and get a quick coffee.
"Spence, where have you been?" Melissa asks sternly when I enter the small coffee shop.
"At college, where else would I have been?" I ask.
"I just thought maybe you would have been with your stupid boyfriend while mom was taken to hospital," she sneers.
"Omg! What happened?" I never knew mom was taken to hospital. I knew she had breast cancer and she was meant to go for her operation tomorrow.
"She was taken in early for her operation," maybe there's something wrong. Why didn't someone phone me?
"Any reason why? Is she okay?" Everyone is looking at us as we create a scene. Maybe we should talk about this outside.
"Yeah she's fine. She's going into surgery in a couple of hours,"
"So she's okay?" I ask again, for reassurance.
"She's fine! I just thought you were busy with Jack," Here we go. She can't even remember his name and it's not that hard to remember.
"Jonny" I correct her whilst giving her an eye role.
"Whatever. Same thing," she says as she walks out the coffee shop and into her brand new Porsche that Wren got for her. She's such a brat.
I quickly collect my coffee and walk to my car where there is a police officer standing in front of it and he's writing something down. I have to admit he is very good looking in a uniform and looks very familiar.
"Excuse me, what are you doing?" I ask him as I speed over to him.
"Is this your car?" He raises his eyebrow at me.
"Yes,"
"Well your getting a ticket," he states. "This is no parking,"
"Where does it say that?" I ask, getting angry.
"Right there," he points right beside us where there is a sign saying 'strictly no parking in the area' in bright red letters.
"Well look officer...." I lean over a bit to see his badge. His badge says Cavanaugh. Oh. My. God. It's Toby. "Toby?" I ask.
"Spencer. Oh my god I never knew it was you," he says while laughing.
"How are you?" I ask. He hasn't changed one bit. He still looks so handsome and just seeing him makes my heart start to race.
"I'm good, how's you?" He asks putting his pad and paper in his pocket and leaning on my car.
I can't help but look at how his muscles are strained while he leans his hand on my car. He wasn't this muscular the last time I saw him.
"I'm okay, I guess." I say, putting my head down and staring at my shoes.
"I'm so sorry Spencer," he says. I can't look at him anymore.
"Can we not talk about it?" I say, trying not to give him eye contact.
"Sure," he sighs.
We stand in awkward silence for a while. I swear you could cut the tension with a knife.
"So, am I getting a ticket?" I ask, changing the subject.
"No, on you go. I won't tell," he jokes. "See you around," he smirks. That smirk that makes my knees wobble.
"See you around," I say, even though he can't hear me.
I get in my car and drive away as quick as I can. That was awkward.
