The Payne Family

Chapter 18.

"Right here."The man says stomping his foot where he hid the keys, the police break open the wooden floor and put there hands in. "Got them."the police officer says taking the keys out.

¦¦¦¦¦ Hospital ¦¦¦¦¦

"Well Mr.Payne, their very lucky. If they weren't here in 2 days..the line would go flat."the doctor says as he leads me to a room. "We'll give you 15 minutes."he says before leaving.

*.* 4 days later*.*

"Okay sweetie, don't say anything about this. We're going to pick up mommy and Lucas."I say adding the last detail to the cake, Kate nods happily.

"Be careful with mommy and Lucas okay?"I notify her as we wait for Dani and Lucas to appear from their rooms. It takes about 6 minutes and Dani and Lucas appear, a smile is placed on both of their faces when they see us. "Mommy!"Kate squeals, she was about to run towards her but I stop her before she hurts Dani. "It's fine, it won't hurt that bad."Dani softly says, I let go of Kate so she can hug her mother whom she hasn't seen for days, though they seemed like weeks!

I knelt down on one knee so Lucas could run into my arms and know that he's safe again, he does. His soft curls brush against my cheek as he wraps his small arms around me and I do the same. I let out a sigh of relief knowing my family has been fixed and happy after what seemed forever. I let go of Lucas so I can hug my lovely wife, her arms marked with faded bruises and cuts.

"I'm fine."Dani whispers as we hugged, I shook my head. "I'm sorry I wasn't there, I wasn lo't there to protect you with all my might..I'm sorry."I whisper.

"And what do we have here?"Dani chuckles as I help Kate set the special meal on the middle of the table, "It's the special.."Kate stops mid-sentence, "Payne.."I start off. "Meat."Kate finishes sitting on the chair next to Lucas. "I set out the untensils and plates and sit next to Dani.

I sat Kate on the swing next to Lucas and pushed both of them, whilst Dani was on the park bench reading. You could see some faded bruises on Lucas' hand as he gripped onto the metal of the swing, I frowned seeing the sight but I put a smile back on my face when I heard them giggling. I let out a relieved sigh and continued pushing them, Kate was giggling like crazy.

After my arms started getting tired, I went over to Dani and sit next to her. "I-We missed you and Lucas."I state, "We missed you too..but Liam, don't you think it's time for another dog?"Dani asks. I look down trying to forget about Loki..it doesn't work.

Flashback

The year 2016,the day Dani and I received the news that she was pregnant, the same day Lucas was playing with Loki in the front yard.

"I'm so excited!"Dani chanted jumping up and down, "When should we tell the boys?"she asks. "Later, let's just relax and not put any pressure or anything."I say leading her to the front, there was Lucas and Loki playing with a ball. "Hi mommy, hi daddy."Lucas grins as he throws the ball, it bounced off a couple things and finally landed on the people's house infront of house. "I'll get it!"Lucas says dashing towards the street, "Lucas NO!"Dani and both shout, Loki bieng the smart one, chases after him.

A bloodcurling yelp rings in our ears, it wasn't Lucas. It was Loki. He got hit by a car, the driver stepped out the car. "Oh gosh, oh gosh. What have I done? I'm so sorry."he says kneeling down next to Loki' s lifeless body, Danielle covers her mouth before she makes sounds from all the crying. Lucas was across the street staring at Loki in the pool of blood and the guy kneeling beside him.

I run and kneel beside the guy and lift messed up Loki.

"Liam..Liam."Dani snaps her fingers in front of my face, I shake my head, "Yeah, eh, what?"I mutter shaking away the thought of little Loki. "The dog, a guard dog but nice..like Loki."Dani notifies me, I gulp away the guilty feeling. "That'd be nice..but what kind of dog?" I ask.
