Lightning Song was rather shocked when Sans showed up the next day. True, he had promised the small pony he would be back, but he just seemed so... unsure. Not only that, he seemed dazed and not entirely there. But Sans did come back. He came back reluctantly, but he came back.

Sans had appeared behind Lightning Song as she was coloring. So, she didn't notice his arrival. For a moment, Sans considered leaving, but then the small pony noticed his presence and gave him a wide smile. She trotted in his direction and settled herself down near him, her coloring book in her mouth.

Lightning Song spat the book out and offered Sans some crayons. "Would you like to color with me?" she asked, giving Sans those sparkling eyes again.

The skeleton hesitated before he shook his head. "No... I don't..." he hesitated, "...color," he confirmed, shuffling nervously.

"That's okay," Lightning Song said, opening the coloring book back up. She put a crayon in her mouth and started to scribble in the book again. Sans's eyes darted to the page, only to notice that the pony's coloring was incredibly neat. Too neat. How old was she? Wasn't she young?

Sans cleared his throat and cautiously sat down on the ground next to Lightning Song. She acted as if they weren't complete strangers, as if they had been friends for the longest time. "So... What exactly is this place?"

Lightning Song dropped the crayon and straightened up. "It's Equestria," she answered, her small wings fluttering.

"And Equestria is...?"

The small pegasus laughed. "You're not from here, are you?" she cocked her head to the side, awaiting Sans's answer.

Sans shrugged. "Not really."

Lightning Song smiled before getting back up and trotting over to her bookcase. She took a book from the bottom shelf in her mouth and hurried back over to Sans. The pony offered the book to him, her eyes still sparkling.

Sans gave Lightning Song a strange look and glanced at the book. Why did he come back? Why did he have to make that promise? The skeleton sighed and took the book from the pegasus, inspecting it thoroughly.

It was a rather thick book. Not something you would expect a small pony to have lying around. It wasn't very decorative; just simple gold letters that spelled out "History of Equestria" with a purple cover. Sans ran his hand over the front, clearing off the dust that had gathered over time. Well, if Sans was going to learn anything about this small pony and where she came from, this seemed a good of a start as any.

Sans flipped open the book and turned to the first page. Displayed there were ponies- ponies with horns, ponies with wings, ponies with neither, and ponies with both. Sans stared at the page in confusion, looking at Lightning Song who was glancing over his shoulder.

"Pegasi," Lightning Song started, flapping her wings as if to show off, "unicorns, earth ponies, and alicorns." She pointed to the illustrations on the page which represented each type of pony as she talked.

Sans just stared at the page blankly. Oh, he had so much to learn. The skeleton walked over to the pony's bookcase, pulling out random books and stacking them on top. He skimmed over the titles briefly, making sure he wouldn't pick up a children's book.
