The night terrors didn't occur as often anymore. Or, the ones with the pink flower, at least. He probably had one or two nightmares in the past few days, but they weren't as extreme as before. Despite the "voice" telling Sans not to go back to Lightning Song, he still visited her daily. Sans couldn't even be sure that the voice was real. Perhaps it was just his guilty conscious.
No one really acknowledged what had happened to Sans. When he showed back up at Toriel's house, Toriel and Frisk greeted him nervously. Flowey just muttered something under his breath before going back to the card game he was playing with Frisk. Sans didn't acknowledge it much either. Besides, what could he say? He didn't have any knowledge of what happened himself.
But his brother pressed on. Sans knew he would have to tell the truth to Papyrus sooner or later. Not even Sans could deny the fact that he had been acting rather suspicious lately. Even when asked about where he had been going all the time, Sans mustered up a stupid excuse that was certainly not eligible enough. Regardless, Sans knew that the day Papyrus officially called him out would be soon.
It just occurred a lot sooner than he had thought.
Sans had just come back from Grillby's, so it was already past midnight. This time, Papyrus had known exactly where Sans went. But it was late, so he was already asleep. Sans was careful not to make too much noise, for he didn't want to wake up his brother. But it turns out, there was no reason to be worried about waking Papyrus, for he was already awake.
Sans didn't notice at first, though. He had already shut the door and was halfway to his side of the room before the light flickered on. Sans flinched and turned to Papyrus's direction, who was laying down but very much awake. "Papyrus...? What are you doing awake?" Had he accidentally awoken his brother?
Papyrus sat up and avoided Sans's gaze. He was clearly nervous about something, but Sans couldn't quite figure out what. "Sans, I've been meaning to ask you for a while but I couldn't find the right time to do it..." he hesitated, still not looking up at Sans. "You've been acting rather strange. And of course, that's not something that surprises me. You and I have our fair share of secrets, but... You don't seem yourself lately. You usually tell me everything but I feel like you're hiding something especially big this time," Papyrus explained.
Sans didn't say anything. He looked down and shuffled nervously before sliding off his hoodie and sighing. "Remember when I always went on about these... timelines to everyone? And I tried to warn all of you before a timeline was reset?" he asked reluctantly, watching his brother's expression shift to pure confusion.
"I remember," Papyrus plainly stated.
"Well..." Sans didn't respond right away. He questioned whether he should talk about Lightning Song now or leave it vague until later. He's meant to bring Lightning Song to his dimension, but something has been holding him back. Sans couldn't tell what the dreams about the pink flower or what that strange voice meant, but he knew it was nothing new. What would happen if he brought Lightning Song to that danger? "This timeline is different, Papyrus. I met someone. Someone we've been looking for for a long time."
Papyrus looked rather puzzled. He couldn't quite figure out what his brother was saying. Then, he suddenly brightened up. "You found a lover?! Oh, that's great, Sans! But why would you have to hide that? I've been looking around for someone for you, but-"
"No, Papyrus!" Sans interrupted him, shooting daggers at Papyrus. "I told you I'm not into people like that. I'm talking about what he left us. You know we're missing something; the blueprints said so."
