Sans wasn't able to sleep last night. After he had finally convinced Papyrus that he was going to be fine and he went back to sleep, Sans snuck out of bed and went out to go look at the stars. Grillby's had closed a long time ago, and Sans just felt like being alone. He needed to clear his head, sort out all of his problems and just relax. He was so stressed.
While out on the roof, Sans realized something that hadn't dawned on him before. Why now was Sans just first starting to meet Lightning Song? It was the only timeline that had her in it. Well... Equestria is a whole different dimension. It isn't connected to the timelines here in this dimension. Maybe that was why. Even so... Sans had never made a teleportation error before. He could blame it on him being drowsy that night, but even intoxicated, he could still get around just fine.
It just didn't make any sense.
The next morning, Sans was tiredly waiting for his brother to finish breakfast. It was a restless night for him, so he could hardly keep his eyes open. He was tempted to say something, to ease the tension between the two, but nothing relevant came to his mind.
He soon didn't have to worry about it, for Papyrus suddenly turned around to look at him and spoke up. "Are you feeling alright, Sans?" he asked, subconsciously stirring whatever was on the stove.
Sans blinked a few times before stretching, trying to wake himself up. He sighed and simply shrugged. "Nothing's wrong," he replied, trying to make his permanent smile seem real.
"That's ridiculous!" His brother countered back. "You never usually act like this, Sans! You're going out late at night, you're having night terrors, and only God knows what you were doing for nearly three hours the other day!"
Well. Papyrus always could read him like a book, but Sans didn't think Papyrus could read that much. Sans hesitated- what was he supposed to say? He couldn't just come out about Lightning Song now! His brother would look at him like he was crazy if he said "Yeah, bro, just been out hanging with a young, talking horse. The usual." So, Sans decided not to say anything at all.
Papyrus let out a long sigh and directed his full attention to the pot on the stove. He knew he couldn't get through to his brother. Sans always had the tendency to deal with everything on his own, even if he knew it was too much for him to handle. It was the same in the underground, Papyrus shouldn't have believed it would be the same on the surface.
But he would hold onto that hope for as long as he could.

Sure enough, Sans showed up in Lightning Song's room the next day. He found her in the same spot as last time, doing the exact same thing: Coloring in a coloring book. This pony really didn't have much of a life to live, did she?
Lightning Song immediately noticed his presence, her eyes lighting up at the sight of him. She smiled at Sans but didn't trot over to him like last time. Instead, she glanced back down at the book she was coloring in. "Are you sure you don't like to color?" she asked him yet again.
The skeleton shook his head, nervously approaching Lightning Song and taking a seat next to her. He glanced at her page like he had done last time. Just like before, her coloring was incredibly neat, not a single color out of the lines.
"I figured you didn't want to learn more about Equestria's history today," the pony stated, turning the page to start on a whole new uncolored drawing. "So maybe we can learn more about each other."
