All I could see was black. I tried hard to open my eyes but they wouldn't budge. What is goining on? Was I dreaming? I tried to move my arms but I felt like I was glued together. I even tried to speak, but I somehow couldn't. I was aware, and I could think and hear. I head distant shuffling noises and a steady beeping sound. Suddenly, I heard a noise and what sounded to be footsteps, but my body could not react. The footsteps came closer and suddenly stopped. What was going on? I heard the shuffling of papers and I honed in my hearing on the sound. A man's voice spoke up.

"I'm sorry ma'am, but your son seems to be in a coma." I heard a gasp and then some faint sobbing.

"But.. he can't be!" The voice sounded very familiar...it was my mom! I wanted to cry out but my lips would not move. That's when I realized what was going on. I was not dreaming, I was in a coma. The doctor started to speak again.

"He attempted suicide at the school today with 5 other children." My memory began flooding back to me. I remember standing on that roof, shocked faces looking up at us.

How did I even survive that fall? What about the others? Where they okay? I wanted to scream with frustration but my body wouldn't let me.

"He's very lucky to be alive, hence the fact that he hit his head pretty good and broke his arm the whole way up." That was the damage that had been done? I was sure that that fall was enough to kill but I guess not.

"I'll leave you alone for awhile." I heard footsteps leading out of the room, and a door shutting. I heard the scuffle of a chair, and I assumed that my mom had sat down. I heard more sobbing as I felt her grab my hand.

I wanted to cry too, but it wasn't possible.

"Carter honey you have to wake up." I wanted to so bad, but it was impossible. I could hear her sob even louder.

"I already lost your father, I can't lose you too!" Those were the words that killed me. I was so frustrated. Why can't I wake up! It was hard to listen to my mom cry like that. I wanted to kill myself because I thought she didn't care...but now I knew that she really did. I wanted to cry too. The chair scuffled again and I was able to assume that she was leaving. No! Don't leave! I didn't want to be alone. I didn't want to be in the dark. I felt numb and cold and I longed for company.

Suddenly, the door opened again, and I heard another familiar voice yell.

"Carter!"
