The 5 of them walked down the hallway, Tabitha trying her best to keep up with the others. Normally, they would have slowed down so that they could all walk together. But this situation was far different.
Charlotte's doctor had called them all together for a "Meeting" because he knew how close they all were to her. They had spent many sleepless nights together, waiting for a report on Charlotte. It was finally time.
"Guys, wait up!" Tabitha called. She swung her crutches as fast as they would go, careful not to slip. They slowed down slightly, but she was still struggling. They had finally reached Charlotte's room, and they all stopped outside. Mark reached his hand out to turn the handle, but Liam stopped him.
"Maybe we should knock first?" Liam suggested. Mark nodded his head and raised his hand to the door. He knocked softly, then put his hands behind his back.
The handle turned slowly, and the doctor poked his head through the opening. He recognized the group, so he stepped out into the hallway without a word. He cleared his throat while the group waited impatiently.
"I have some bad news." He finally spoke. They were all silent for awhile until Carter spoke.
"What is it?" He asked, although it's as if they already knew.
"Charlotte unfortunately died today."
The words hit them all like a thousand knives.
"N-No!" Tabitha stammered. "She can't be!" One by one, tears streamed from their eyes.
"I'll let you see her one last time." The doctor said awkwardly. He held the door open as they all slowly filed in. He shut the door behind them as his footsteps could be heard disappearing down the hallway. They all slowly surrounded he bed, their eyes not leaving the lump under the blanket.
"I can't believe she's really gone." Emily said in a tear-choked voice. They all hung their heads low in mourning. It had been about 5 minutes before Carter broke the silence.
"Guys, we made a pact. I just don't understand how we all set out to kill ourselves, but we failed." At those words, they all looked back up at Charlotte's covered up body. They all had failed, except Charlotte. It seemed as if they just couldn't go on without her. They were incomplete.
"What exactly are you getting at?" Mark asked, eyeing him over. Carter had defiance in his eyes.
"I don't think our lives are ever going to get better." Carter continued. They all nodded their heads in agreement.
"I say we make a Suicide Pact, but for Charlotte." Carter finished. Tabitha spoke next.
"He's right. What do we have to lose?" They all began to nod their heads in understanding and agreement.
"Who's with me!?" Carter exclaimed, as he extended his hand towards them. The rest of them shouted "me" at the same time while putting their hands in the middle with Carter.
"But let's do it for real this time."
