Yesterday was a disaster to say the least, but eventually, our lives returned to normal.
The next morning, the normal Run Squad, along with Chaeji and I, got into two separate trucks that we had at camp. In one truck was DK, Choah, Yunmi, and Wonwoo. The other had Hoshi driving, me in the passenger seat, and Chaeji and Mingyu in the backseat.
Prior to leaving, Soyeon and Chan warned everyone to be careful. Chan had apparently told her the store we were heading to was large, like Walmart, but could've been taken over by rotters by now. The two were worried for our well being, and I felt it was my duty to calm them down.
"Guys, we're gonna be fine." I assured. "You've seen us take out shit before, we all know how to shoot, and if the place is filled, we'll find a way around it."
"But what if something goes wrong and you run out of ammo, or someone hurts themselves-" Hoshi cut Soyeon's words off this time.
"We'll be okay, we promise." He smiled.
Soyeon and Chan shared a glance before nodding and walking off. All of us rolled our windows up, and Hoshi started the truck. Soon, we pulled out behind DK and started down the road we had never traveled before.
"Why is Hoshi driving?" Chaeji asked, "He doesn’t know where we're going."
"I plan to follow DK, but I came from this side of town so I could probably figure out if need be."
She nodded, leaving that aspect of this trip alone.
For a good couple minutes, the car was in absolute silence. I didn’t know what to do, and I soon found my head wandering into memories from yesterday. A small grin grew on my face.
"Hey, Raejin." Chaeji spoke again, "That thing we talked about with the girls the other night..."
"What do you mean?" I had a good feeling she was referring to Hoshi and I, but I wanted to be sure.
"You know, the thing about you and the Wild Goose." Again, I wasn’t a hundred percent sure what she meant, so I looked at her through the mirror, and saw she was looking at Hoshi. I nodded nonchalantly, and she nodded back, understanding. I assumed she was asking if I realized I liked him.
"Yea, everyone's assumptions were true."
Mingyu scoffed, "Why am I not part of the gossip? I wanna know."
"Mingyu, you would be the last person I'd tell anything related to this topic." I chuckled. He pouted.
"I hate this family," He mumbled, "Every single person."
"Wow, Mingyu. Even me?" Hoshi was astonished by Mingyu's lack of thought put into his insult.
"Did I not state in the introductions the day everyone got here that I hate you?"
"True."
The truck returned back to its normal silence. Truthfully, the silence was more comfortable than when we were in a conversation. Not that I minded talking to them, of course, I was just okay with sticking to my thoughts. But maybe that wasn’t such a good idea when that was the reason Hoshi didn't trust me, because I always spaced out.
"So, Mingyu..." I attempted to strike up the talking again, "What were you doing when everything went down?"
It took a moment before he responded, which worried me, making me believe I brought up the wrong topic with him. But after a second or two, he sighed, telling us, "I was at home with my mom, and we were watching the news together because we heard from my aunt over in Daegu that there was a ton of reports going on about Seoul. When we saw what was going on, she tried to escape on the highway, but I knew it wasn’t going to work and took off without her on a different road in my own vehicle."
