"Attention, People of South Korea. Today is the big day."
Hoshi and I looked at each other, grinning wider than we ever had.
"The wall around the Civilization is set to be taken down today. Those who lived in any area outside of the walls prior to the apocalypse are allowed to return home. All homes have been rebuilt and double-checked for rotters. The virus is contained and the problem is gone. Pack your things and head on home!"
Today was June 21st of 2017. Finally, the wall was being destroyed. Things were going back to normal. Youngnam had talked to all of us Survivors recently and told us that special homes were built for us closer to each other. We asked for more information, but he told us that the location of the homes was a surprise. All we knew was that we weren't going back to our old homes.
Well, not all of us.
We had all of our things packed and in moving trucks. When the wall was taken down, an ass ton of moving trucks piled out onto the roads to go to the locations they were told to go to. Jaewon was driving the moving truck that had about half the group's stuff in it. We were in cars, following. I was amazed when he stopped the truck, jumping out.
"This is where you guys will be living."
All of our vehicles were parked in the driveway of Vernon's farm. As he got out of his and Seungkwan's car, he almost burst into tears. Around the farmhouse, more homes were built nearby, not too close together but also not too far. There were some on the other side of the road, in place of the forest that the herd came from, the same forest we walked in with the horses. The pond was somewhere far behind one of the homes.
"Youngnam still feels guilty about leaving you guys out there for so long, so he made a special place for all of you to stay together. He figured some of you could move in with Vernon like old times, but there's enough space for all of you here."
He began walking around, pointing to each house and saying who lived in which one. Jun was no longer with us, apparently, but no one seemed bugged by that. Hoshi and I lived in a four bedroom, two-story house with the kids, and upon later exploring, we found that the pond wasn't technically behind our house, but nearby. Verkwan lived in the original farmhouse, Minghao and Choah were in one, of course, then there was Soyeon and Chan in one with DK since they weren't old enough to live alone, then Jun, Wonwoo, Mingyu, and Jihoon stayed in one. Joshua moved into a house with Jeonghan, Chaeji, and her new girlfriend, Hyomin, whom she had met somewhere in the Civilization, but we later learned that they had known each other and dated years before. Yunmi and Seungcheol lived together as well, in a house near ours. Then Yoongi moved back home with Jaewon. Samuel, well...
"Hey, Raejin!" Samuel's voice boomed as I picked up the phone call.
"Hey, what's up?" I asked. "Did you make it to your home safely?"
"That's kind of why I called." He quietly said. "I know I lied about a lot, and this is just some more that I have to explain. My parents didn't just drop me off at the Civilization and leave. Actually, I haven't seen my parents for a long time. I don't know what happened that they didn't want me, but my parents passed me off to a family friend, so I lived with Jaewon and his mom for my whole life, so that should be where I go. It isn't like I don't wanna live with Jaewon, but..."
"You want to live with us?"
"You and Hoshi were like the parents I never had. Jaewon's mom was more like an aunt, but with you guys, I felt like I was actually part of a family. Not only you and Hoshi, but the whole group made me feel like I fit in."
"If it's really what you want, then grab your stuff and come home."
By the end of the first day, the laws were put back in order and things actually started to seem like they were before, more than I expected. The threat of rotters still always lingered in the back of my mind, though the threat was never really there in the first place. And the roads, they were all cleared of bombed cars. All the stores had their shelves restocked since everything had expired. There was also the fact that we were taking off the shelves for a couple months, too. Then the Hellseekers... oh man.
