First Christmas

Third pov

The holiday came around in a sudden red & green flash. Before she even knew it, decorations of fat mean dresses in red coats with a white beard, and a happy smile flocked every store. Along with reindeer & carrot nosed snowmen. Arabella was entirely confused.

'Eh? Why are people putting all this up? Is this a western tradition?'

Sabo looked over to his girlfriend, who was staring around as if she was on a alien planet. He was confused as to why Arabella was acting the way she was. He held her hand, and gave it a light squeeze. He got her attention.

"Sabo..why is the town so..flashy?" She asked. "What do you mean? Its Christmas." Realization fell upon her features, "This is what Christmas is?" She asked. He gave her a weird look, "What...do you mean that...-" he quietly whispered, "you've never celebrated Christmas?" Sabo asked. Arabella nods, "Yeah. Or well, we Russians don't really celebrate it that much. Its more like a
religious & private thing among families. New Year is a bigger celebration for us though..." Arabella said.

(A/N:It is true though. It mainly has to do with the Soviet Union in the early 19th century. Although some Russians celebrate it on January 7th, and then catholic Russians celebrate Christmas on the original date. This is because of the Russian Orthodox Church used the old Julian calendar for religious celebration days)

Arabella stared around, her electric blue eyes sparkling, "But..all these lights are so beautiful. They're so bright." She said. Sabo looked at her, "Arabella..do you wanna celebrate Christmas with me?" She nods eagerly, "Yes! I want to spend that special day with you, and I wanna understand Christmas! Please?" She asked. He smiles, "Of course! I'll tell you how it all works."

And so, as the two walked through the streets of town, Sabo explained to her how Christmas worked, and how it all started. Luckily, one of his subjects at University was Religion studies, so he had fully explained it in greater detail. At first, Arabella was confused about giving people presents, but once Sabo explained the true meaning of giving presents to those you cherish, she immediately wanted to do that for him. She wanted to buy presents for her friends & family, specifically for Sabo.

'What is something that he loves? What will be something that he'll forever cherish?'

As Christmas rapidly approached, Arabella was running out of ideas. She was actually considering in what he'd like for Christmas. But she didn't do it, as she wanted the present to be a surprise.

Then one day, she saw it. The perfect gift for Sabo.

*timeskip*

Tonight, Sabo's brothers were coming over to his place for Christmas. Ace decided to bring along his girlfriend, Itami. Sabo didn't really mind, since Arabella was also coming to try & celebrate for the first time. He was excited to see what Arabella would do & react to the Christmas spirit that both of his brothers will bring along.

'Just...don't be scared, my Ara. Just be happy, and try your hardest!'

Soon, everyone had come over to Sabo's place, bringing along their presents for each other. They all greeted each other warmly with hugs, and wishes for a Merry Christmas. Finally, Arabella showed, holding presents. Sabo was surprised, but was genuinely happy that Arabella was trying to get into the Christmas spirit. Finally, it was time to open up presents.

Ace & Sabo got Luffy a fishing rod, so that he can go fishing at the port with his friend Ussop. Sabo & Luffy got Ace a whole lot of Spiderman merchandise. While Ace & Luffy bought a new book for Sabo. It was one of the books that Sabo has been meaning to read for a long time. Finally, Ace got a golden locket for Itami, inside was a picture of them on their five year anniversary. Itami wouldn't stop hugging Ace after that. Anyway, Itami got Ace some shirts, and made a photo collage of them while they were dating throughout the years.

'I'm finally starting to see how important Christmas is now. Its a beautiful sight, truly. I can understand why people love Christmas so much now. You get to spend it with your loved ones; the most important people in your life.'

Finally, it was Arabella's turn to give & receive gifts. Itami & Ace bought Arabella a new black winter dress, along with a pair of high heels, and some perfume. Luffy actually managed to buy Arabella some nice looking nail polish & other perfume (no doubt having help from Itami). Arabella bought Luffy a winter coat. Bought Itami a purple scarf, her favorite mascara, a big packet of bath bombs from Lush & a shit ton of lotus flowered difusers. As for Ace, she got him Spiderman comics (ones of which he fanboyed over immediately).

"Guess its my turn." Sabo said. She shyly gave Sabo her present, "Merry Christmas, Sabo." She said shyly. Sabo kissed her forehead, "Thank you, Arabella. Merry Christmas."

She watched as he neatly unwrapped the blue wrapping paper. Sabo made a mental note at how good & tidy Arabella was at wrapping presents. His eyes went wide as he stared down at the present. It was a brand new blue top hat, one that he's being dying to get, but never having enough money to buy when he's there. He looked at Arabella, a bright smile on his face.

"Arabella...its perfect!" He cried as he hugged her. She giggled, "I noticed that you always wanted that one. So I thought that..." she didn't finish her sentence, as he had put the top hat on her, "Sabo?" He pouted with thought, "It looks cute on you." He said. She shook her head, "No! It'll look cuter on you!" She insisted as she put the hat on him. "Huh, you're right. It does look good on me." Arabella giggled, "Told ya." He then grabbed out his present, which was wrapped in a small box, "Merry Christmas, Arabella." He carefully placed the box on her little hands, she smiled at him, "Thank you, Sabo. Merey Christmas."

Sabo sat Arabella on her lap, so that he could watch her unwrap it. As she pulled & tug at the ribbon, Ace & Luffy were guessing what the present could be. Over & over, Luffy kept on thinking that it might be a miniature puppy. But, as Arabella lifted the box open, Luffy shut up. Arabella put her hand over mouth as she stared down at the ring.

"Sabo...is that what I think it is?" Itami asked. Sabo took the ring out of the box, and stared into Arabella's beautiful blue eyes, "Its a wedding ring."

Arabella swore that she & Itami's mind had linked. The way Itami was acting, it was the same way Arabella's mind was reacting to all of this: Squealing, saying "Oh my god!" Over & over again, doing little hand dances & smiling idiotically. Sabo stated dead into Arabella's eyes, his ring sitting in the cup of his hand.

"Moonlight D Arabella, I really really love you. We've been dating for so long, and I believe that I'm hopelessly in love with you. You're so amazing, kind, intelligent & a beautiful person. And..and I was wondering..will you marry me, and celebrate Christmas with me every year?" Arabella wiped at her eyes, and let out a couple sniffs here & there. Finally, she nods eagerly, "Yes! Yes I will!"
