You were on your back, the moon and sun were sharing the same sky above you. Your ears were trying to find peace, slowly twitching as you squirmed in the grass to find a lazy enough position. The sun was warm on your skin but you'd rather it be a cloudy day. The Pride Lands were quiet which meant that you could be alone with your thoughts. Little by little every sound of leaked out of your ears and you felt like you were in a vacuum, with no sound, no time, no weather, just the emptying silence―
"I CAN'T FOCUS LIKE THIS!"
Your heart prickled and you felt antsy. How could you try and be calm when your other half was shaking?
It was no less than 2 weeks ago when you had managed to shake Kion out of his Great-uncle's grasp and bring him back to reality. The experience had been traumatic for the both of you and the distress hadn't ended there. Simba and Nala were quick to accept their son back, in fact as soon as Kion had appeared in front of his mother with a sane gleam in his eye, his sister, Kiara, nearly pounced on him and his parents began crying tears of joy.
Rafiki and Bunga had welcomed him back with open arms and Ono expressed his relief and joy by holding back his sharp tongue and staying closer to the ground.
The Royal Family had accepted him back without question but as the rest of the animals began to come out of hiding as the vegetation grew back and the watering hole began to fill up once again, they began questioning Simba's decision to take him in without trial. Rebellions began to bubble up throughout the Pride Lands, starting with the wildebeests and zebras who had lost their loved ones to Kion's undying hunger.
Soon the rest of the animals, feeling sympathetic for the significantly decreased population of the plant-eaters had begun revolting as well. The Royal Family, though greatly distressed by it, had to acknowledge their demands for a trial which was taking place right now. This was the first of many to come and you couldn't even be there in support of Kion as you were not a council member. The set of trails where they would be accepting witnesses was a long way to come.
Looks like you wouldn't be able to properly relax until then.
After waiting nearly an hour, Kion's familiar golden pelt came into view and you frantically ran up to him. "What?! What did they say?!"
By the way he was slouched, you could tell it was bad news but he turned to you with a small smile, "They might let me go."
You frowned at him, "I can tell you're lying, Kion. What did they really say?"
He flinched and broke eye-contact, instead looking at his paws,
"I've been accused for treason."
You gasped, "They can't be serious! Everyone knows that you were influenced by Scar! How could they even think that."?
Kion waited a moment before speaking, "They know, but the animals want some kind of compensation for losing their kind." His voice was soft and strained. He was trying hard not to cry.
"So, they're not going to care that you're innocent just because the stupid people want some stupid sympathy that'll not even last them a day?"
Kion nodded and let out a sob as he fell against you. Anguished, you pulled him closer and let your tears fall as well.
"I don't want to die, (Y/N)." He cried and your heart tore, hearing his broken voice echo in your ear, "You're not going to, I can promise you that."
The two of you spent a long time in each other's embrace before you pulled away from him. You stared him in the eye, with a look of concern mixing with panic and sadness, "Kion,"
His watery eyes meet your own and there's something in yours that he lacks. Fierceness. You think for a while on how to arrange your words but in the end, say it, "Kion, let's run away."
"O-Okay."
