Today was the day. The day you would leave all your problems behind and run away with Kion to who knows where. You were anxious and antsy the entire day, going over your plan time and time again, trying to find any flaws that could possibly get you caught.

Kion had attempted to calm you down but only when you were finally out of the Pride Lands would you finally be rid of these jitters. You couldn't wait for this to be over, you couldn't wait for the past to be behind you.

If it was up to you, you would have left that second itself but Kion had insisted on waiting until nightfall, which seemed like the most practical option, you had to agree.

Kion had managed to calm you down but once the sun had begun to set, you felt like throwing up. It was twilight when the Pride had fallen asleep but you and Kion were too excited and nervous to fall asleep.

Slowly, but sure, you crept out of Pride Rock and began to descend it.

"And just where do you think you're going?"

You froze.

The pair of you turned around to meet eyes with the blue baboon. You sighed, Rafiki would be easier to convince than any other animal, at least bad luck was being kind to you.

Kion was the first to speak, "Just, you know, a midnight walk."

He wasn't convinced, in fact, he snorted, walking Kion in the shin with his stick, "Now, the truth."

Kion visibly shrunk, his ears going flat against his head, "We were trying to run away."

You lowered your eyes, not wanting to meet the disappointed ones belonging to Rafiki, "If we stay here any longer, Kion might be killed." You whispered, your voice thick with tears.

The baboon sighed and rubbed his face, "I am very well aware of that but I cannot allow you and Kion to leave the Pride Lands." Your head snapped up.

"I would let you go but according to law, if the convicted animal leaves the Pride Lands without his case being finished, the animal's family is banished as well," Your eyes widened in alarm, "Kion, if your family is banished, there will be no one to rule the Pride Lands and this kingdom would fall apart. Which is why I cannot allow you to leave tonight."

Your eyes filled, "What do we do now?" You asked Rafiki. Your lip was trembling and Kion leaned against you as comfort.

He gave you a grave smile, "We hope for the best."

You hadn't the heart to return to Pride Rock that night. You and Kion had just spent the night under a canopy of trees, trying to fall asleep but all you could think was that in a few hours, Kion would have his final meeting.

This was the public court, where the entire pride and 2 representatives from each animal group would be called and asked to discuss. The rest of the animals would stand by Pride Rock and wait for the verdict.

Since you weren't born from any lion or lioness from the pride, or married to one, you weren't permitted to vote on the verdict but you were allowed to view it. It was heart-wrenching and you felt tears fill your eyes and sadness pool in the pit of your stomach.

'This could be one of the last times I get to see him.' You thought sadly, your gaze flickering to the lion pretending to be asleep next to you. You leaned in and flicked your tongue on his ear. He shuddered but didn't move away and you sighed, resting your body on top of his.

His eyes fluttered open and he caught your solemn gaze with an equally sorrowful one. You knew he was trying to think of something to say that would make you feel better but nothing would be able to get your mind out of your own sorrowful thoughts.

"I love you."

You blinked back tears and let out a shaky breath, it didn't make you feel better but it was nice to hear.

"I love you too, so much." You whispered, lightly pecking his nose.

You watched the case cautiously as the lions and animals had negotiated

You watched the case cautiously as the lions and animals had negotiated. You saw the sadness and tiredness in Simba's and Nala's eyes and the anxiousness in Kiara's.  You couldn't bear to look at Kion's frightened. You couldn't process any of the words said, you couldn't focus.

You couldn't have helped anyway.

You chewed on your lip, staring at your paws when suddenly everyone had silenced. You looked up to see an antelope walking to the edge of Pride Rock, "The verdict has been decided." He spoke with a loud voice and your spine chilled.

"Kion, son of Simba and Nala and leader of the Lion Guard has been charged for genocide. With the evidence presented and the free and fair discussion held between the elders, by majority vote, the sentence has been decided,"

"His sentence is death."

Your heart stopped as you heard his mother burst into tears.
