-Chapter 21-

"Class, turn to page 50."

"Sorry I am late, Ms Kinslet." Kyle came in barging through the classroom door and interrupted the ongoing class. The teacher just narrowed her eyes and gestured him to take a seat without a lecture. No detention? How is it that he doesn't get a detention slip?

We were in Living Skill class and Ms Kinslet was our teacher. She was really young and she was totally bias. Which also annoyed the hell out of me. She let cute guys off the hook when they were late or messed up something which was so not fair. Not Fair!

"As I was saying, on page 50, you will see a recipe of a marble cake. For this week's assignment, I want all of you to be paired up and come up with a cake recipe. Next Monday will be taste testing. Any questions?" She continued saying.

"Does it have to be marble cake?" A guy with blue spectacle raised up his hand and asked.

"Nope. It can be any cake you want. Any other question before I put you all into pairs?" She asked.

Nobody said anything as she took her name list out.

"Zach Brannon with Cassandra Johns." The first name she called out. This was the only class I had with Zach and Aaron.

"Aaron Murray with Evelyn Dime." She continued reading.

"Cute guy as my partner! Score!" Evelyn whispered to me with excitement and happiness but I was not really elated with it. No one knew about our sibling relationship and if Aaron decides to do the assignment in our house, Evelyn is going to find out and with her huge mouth, the whole school will know about it in seconds. On top of that, she was going to kill me for not telling her I was Aaron's stepsister.

"You dont mind right?" she asked when the smile on my face faded.

"Why would I? He is all yours." I grinned.

"You seem to be really close to him and I thought maybe you guys are seeing each other."

"What? Where did you get that idea from?" I faked a shock face.

"He drives you to school and home.What does that mean?" she raised an eyebrow.

"Right. We are just really tight like best friends. But dont worry, we are not together." I forced a smile.

So at that moment, I had 2 things to worry about, first was about Evelyn and Aaron, second was I was secretly praying I would not have Kyle as my partner again. I wanted to avoid him as much as possible. Ms Kinslet please be nice to me.

"Ashley Evans, you will be with" I took a deep breath when she said my name. Please, anyone but Kyle.

Lord help me out here.

".. with Jake Parker." Sense of relief washed over me as I smiled at teacher acknowledging what she had said calmly but the little me inside was doing a werid happy dance. I hope Jake is a good cook too.

The teacher continued naming everyone and their pairs. I was so relieved and when I turned to look at Jake, he smiled at me. This day wasn't that bad after all. At least one thing was going my way.
