-Chapter 35-

*Jake's Pov*

Watching the way Ashley run was mesmerizing. The way her ponytail swings and the way the wind blow against her made her look so sexy. As expected she did great at the 100m. But after that she was bending towards the dustbin puking.

I had the urge to walk forward to comfort her but I couldnt. I just couldnt as her life was practically in my hands.

For the 200m, I watched her jog to her lane, looking miserable and pale, I worried for her. When the gun shot went off, she left the starting point as fast as possible.

Her face showed pain but also determination. She definitely was not backing out.

She told me before that she always wanted to join Nationals, and now she finally got it. After all those years of bad luck, fate was finally on her side.

When she finished the race, she ran to dustbin again to vomit. I was sad and worried for her, she tend to overthink and pressure herself when all she needed was confidence. And getting second in this race was not helping.

I saw her disappointment when she looked at the board and her name was in the second slot. Oh how I wished I could changed thaf for her. I would do anything for her, even to hide from her to keep her safe. I had always wondered if it hurt her as much as it hurt me when I walk away from her. Even though I was the one walking away, I felt more pain. Like a stab through the heart.

There was a resting time for her as she came into the crowd to meet her family and friends. It was great to see her smile around them, I wished I could make her smile this way too. It was the sweetest and the most beautiful smile ever.

When the 400m event was called, she jogged to her lane with more confidence than before. I guess someone gave her a pep talk. She scanned the crowd once more, before a sad expression took over her face. She looked as though she was looking for someone.

She ran swiftly and fast to the finishing line, claiming her number one spot with a goofy grin on her face. I watched her bounce up and down while getting ready for her next event.

She took her lane after registering, and I could see the nervousness in her eyes. She eyed her first hurdle and when the gun shot went off, she took off. Jumping over one by one gracefully, she kept her momentum until she tripped over the nineth one. I covered my eyes, I couldnt watch her break down but instead she stood up and continued, leaving her last event with another gold medal!

The prize giving ceremony was whiny and long but when Ashley stood on the podium for every event she won, she had that smile on her face I had never really seen. It was a rare one, she received her medals with pride but not ego. She was always humble everytime she won, it was amazing how she did that.

That is one of the things I love about her.

I was all dressed up and leaning against the wall. Everyone was having the time of their lives, some were dancing, some were chatting, and some were eating. I on the other hand came alone to do one thing. I only had one motive of appearing wherever Ashley would be. I had to keep an eye out for her.

I stood there watching her walk in with her prom date. Jealousy started to build inside of me as I tightened my grip on the cup I was holding.

A lot of guys took turn to dance with her, as much as I wanted to, I didnt. She came with the love of her life, and I was not going to ruin it for her. She never told me who she liked but when I asked her whether she liked Kyle, she said she didnt know. I had to admit I was crushed but I never stopped loving her.
