Chapter 29

We were in the kitchen, having coffee after midnight. We were sitting at the dining table. Robbie, mom, dad and I. I couldn't stop staring at him, if Robbie hadn't dyed some blue in his hair he would look just like him. Except younger. Dad had a little gray sprinkled in his dark hair. He looked up and our eyes connected, but I looked away.

I looked over at Robbie who was glaring at dad, and mom who was looking anywhere else but at dad. We've been in here, since I first saw dad. Mom decided to make coffee, like this was family coffe bonding time. If this was family bonding time, then this was the most awkward family bonding time I have ever experienced.

I took a sip of my coffee. Oh coffee, I hate you so much, but give me strength. Wait, why am I drinking coffee, I hate coffee. I put the mug down and cleared my throat deciding to break the silence, "So, it's snowing. That's...interesting." I said nodding.

Mom cleared her throat, "Yes, it is. Like a winter wonderland." She said with a slight awkward smile. I nodded in agreement. Dad cleared his throat,

"Snow is beautiful, but sometimes it's dirty, and slippery." Robbie gave dad a bitter smirk,

"Really? And, I guess when it gets dirty and slippery you just leave the snow for dirty, skanky grass who's almost the same age as us." Everyone became quiet. Great way to make things less awkward Robbie. Dad set his coffee cup on the table,

"Robert," Robbie glared at him, and I would've laughed at hearing Robbie's actual name but now was not the time, "I know I've made a lot of mistakes in the past, but if you point them out every time you see me, then we're not gonna be able to move on." Robbie frowned,

"So, you're admitting you made a mistake when you left mom. When you left us?" Robbie questioned with a thoughtful look on his face. Dad sighed and slowly nodded,

"Yes, I do regret-" Mom immediately stood up, put her mug in the sink and walked away. I sighed, this is really hard on mom. All of us really. dad sighed again, and rubbed his face. He looked up at me and I looked down. I really didn't want to be here right now.

"Charlotte." I set my mug down on the counter and gave them a small smile,

"I'm gonna go to bed now." I walked away and I heard footsteps behind me. I walked upstairs and the footsteps followed. I walked inside my room to see dad and Robbie right behind him. I sat on my bed, and dad hesitated before he sat next to me. Robbie just stood by the doorframe, glaring at a wall.

"I know you and Robbie don't like me very much right now. But, I want you guys to know that even though I wasn't around, that I have always loved you." I stayed quiet as he leaned over and kissed my forehead, "And, I'm happy you're marrying that boy." I stayed still as he walked away, and left.

When we heard his car drive away Robbie immediately sat next to me, "Don't trust him, Charlotte. He's only here now, because he heard you're marrying a billionaire." Robbie said bitterly. I sighed,

"I hate it when things get serious like this. I hate it when you're all angry and stuff. I miss the Robbie who calls me names, and is so freaking annoying." Robbie gave me a small smirk,

"You're right, ugly." I gasped, and he laughed, "So, it's snowing....that's interesting." He said, in a high pitched voice mocking me. I rolled my eyes,

"Hey watch it, Robert." We both laughed, and then we both decided that it was time for bed. Robbie sighed, as he leaned on my doorframe,

"Go to bed, goody-goody." I rolled my eyes, but nodded anyway. When he left, I took in a deep breath. What a great way to start the morning. Sarcasm. With that last thought, I went to sleep.
