Chapter 8

I looked at the clock hanging above the fridge in my mom's kitchen. Josh was ten minutes late. I turned around, and mom was frowning with her arms crossed. I gave mom a sheepish grin,

"Im sure he's caught in traffic or something." I said, and mom huffed. I looked down, and awkwardly straightened out my strapless pink sundress. Mom said it was a sophisticated dress, even though it reached my knees. At that exact moment the doorbell ranged. I gave mom another sheepish grin,

"I'll get it." I ran towards the front door before mom could protest. But, when I reached the front door, Robby already beat me to it. I heard Joshes voice, but I couldn't see his face. Robby was basically blocking the door.

"Im just going say right now, that if you hurt my sister in anyway, shape or form, then Im going to hunt you down and kick your ass." Robbies voice was nothing else but serious. And, I was shocked. Robby was never this overprotective of me. But, what shocked me even more was Joshes reply,

"Trust me, when I say that I will never hurt Charlotte. I love her." His words sent chills down my spine. Either Josh is a good actor, or liar....maybe both. Robby huffed some reply, and stepped out of the way letting my eyes catch Joshes blue ones.

His cold blue eyes were on me, and then suddenly they roamed my body. I couldn't help but do the same. He was wearing a dress shirt, with a tie. His hands were in his dressy pants pockets. His dark brown hair actually looked tamed. He walked over to me, and leaned down and kissed my cheek causing me to blush.

He pulled back, "Charlotte, you look as beautiful as ever." His soft, velvety voice continued to have an effect on me. I frowned, what the hecks wrong with me? This is Josh, the conceited, insufferable asshole in the world. Why is he suddenly acting like the most innocent guy in the world.

Then I realized what he was doing. Putting on a show for my family. He wrapped his arms around my waist, indulging me with his scent, which was mixed with shaving cream and cologne. A bad combination, yet he pulled it off.

I hesitantly wrapped my arms around his body, returning the hug. Robby cleared his throat and we both pulled back. Me, with a deep blush, and Josh with a unreadable expression on his face, that quickly disappeared as soon as it came.

Robby rolled his eyes, his spiked blue hair as spiked as ever. He gave me a stern look, and sent a glare at Josh,

"There will be no touching of the little sister today." He said giving Josh a challenging look, and Josh nodded. Robby walked towards the kitchen where mom was, setting the bowl of salad on the table. Probably sensing that she was my mom, Josh immediately turned on the charm.

Mom smiled at josh, and I could tell it was fake. I could tell she disapproves of the wedding. As a matter of fact, yesterday she even said, and I quote, 'Charlotte, I disapprove of this marriage."

She held out her hand, "Hello, Josh? It's nice to meet you." Josh held her hand and kissed the back of it,

"Wow. Charlotte never told me she had a sister." Mom blushed, and giggled like a high-school girl. Me and Robby snorted, and mom shot us a quick glare. Then she smiled at Josh,

"You're too sweet. Im her mother." She said still blushing, and Josh nodded, his smile never leaving his face.

"Okay, Mrs-"

"Oh, call me Meredith sweetheart." She said, giving him a flirty smile. There is nothing more awkward than your mom flirting with your fiancé. Fake or not. Josh noticed the food mom had arranged on our long rectangular table.

From that bowl of salad, to salmon and mac n' cheese, we had it on the table. We all sat down, and filled our plates. Me next to Josh, and Robby and mom across from us. An awkward silence filled up the space of the dining room. Filled with my mom sending flirty smiles at Josh, Robby glaring at Josh, me basically banging my head on the table, and Josh awkwardly sipping his lemonade.
