Chapter Seven:
A few days had passed since I agreed to marry Josh. I still couldn't believe I said yes but what the hell. It was time to be more unpredictable and who knows how my life would be. I googled his name, yes I know creepy but I wanted to see if there was anything I should know about him before I said 'I do'.
There in fact was a lot I had to know about him. He had quite the reputations and has gotten in a lot of trouble before. Though in front of me on my table sat the newspaper with a big article reading LOCAL GIRL MARRIES WEALTH with the drunken picture of me and Josh. I only hoped my mother didn't see if before she arrived home soon. I had gone around the neighborhood this morning collecting them all.
That's when I heard the door open and I took a deep breath flipping the newspaper over. It was in fact my stupid brother. "Guess what I know..." he said. He knows...my eyes widened and I looked away to hid my panic.
"What loser?" I asked him pretending to playing with my food. He didn't say anything so I turned to look at him. He had the article title and picture cut out, framed in a large frame. He was holding a proud look on his face.
"I'm going to wrap it in the newspaper and give it to mom as a welcome home gift," he said. I couldn't breathe. I jumped up to wrestle it from him but I couldn't reach it being that he was so tall.
"Please!" I begged, I had never begged him for anything before, "I wanted to tell her myself so I could explain it to her!" He laughed coldly and held it higher.
"I think...I'll just stand outside and wait for her," he said and then rushed outside to the front porch. How could he? I hated him so much, he was getting none of my new money. I wasn't going to buy him any nice gifts that jerk.
I had to tell her before he did so I grabbed the phone and began dialing her number. She wasn't picking up. I called her once more and she answered, but it sounded like she was in the room. "Mom?!" I said quickly.
"Anything you need to tell me Charlotte?" she muttered and I turned around to see her standing at the door with her frame in her hand. That bastard...I thought of my brother. He walked in the house behind her looking accomplished and walking up the steps.
I sat down with her and explained everything...except for the truth. I told her I met Josh and that I was just helping him away from the paparazzi. I could barely get through the words I told her next. "Well...we just clicked," I lied. It was the total opposite but I needed to make her believe we did. "I want to marry him mom, I do."
"Well...I'm not going to lie and say I don't think you're going to fast," she said and I looked down at the floor. "If you really want to...then I'm always by your side sweetie. When do I get to meet this boy?"
"Tomorrow..." I lied again, "I'd have to get Josh to agree to it but I'm sure he would."
"Great," she said with a forced smile and left the room.
Josh's POV
I had just gotten off the phone with my Dad who thought I was lying the entire time. He asked me questions like how much did I pay her or if she was a gold digger. Of course I wasn't paying her anything and she didn't find me first. I gave my father the whole story of how I'd think she'd change me and all that, he eventually sighed and agreed. He wasn't going to unfreeze my accounts until after the wedding.
My plan had worked though, like it always did. This girl was resistant though, which I wasn't used to. Why didn't she fall all over me like most girls did? Every one of them loved me, I mean how couldn't they? Well so she'd be all over me, I guaranteed it.
I sat there and turned on the news, they were talking about my quick engagement. The phrase "finally settling down" was mentioned quite a lot. I was interested into seeing what everyone thought of me. Last night I got about a thousand mentions in twitter, all of them from young girls tweeting about how sad they were I was off the market. There was the fair share of means one about people being shocked. Oh well, I had gotten what I wanted. I always do.
