Three days later
Your POV
It's a silent morning. No shouting. No screaming. Silence.
As I sit at the dining table, eating my cereal, I listen to my parents hushed conversation in the living room.
Although I can't make out many words, I know that whatever they're talking about isn't good.
Suddenly, the silence breaks.
"You can't do that to me! I'm her father!"
"Oh, and aren't you just the number one dad! If she knew that you've been out seeing another woman, do you really think she'd care about the divorce?"
My dad... cheated?
I hear footsteps, followed by the front door slamming, making me jump. My mum walks in, the hurt she's feeling visible in her glossy eyes.
"Mum, what do you mean, 'another woman'? And you and Dad aren't really getting a divorce... are you?"
She sighs and avoids eye contact. "Y/N, we need to talk..."
Phil's POV
"What's goin' on, Mr Lester?" Kyle says as he bursts into my room, followed by Kat.
I fiddle with my fingers. I can do this.
"I'm going to ask her!" I blurt. Both jaws drop, stunned. They turn and face each other, and scream.
They stand and jump up and down on my bed, hugging one another, whooping and cheering.
"You're serious? You're actually serious?" Kat squeals sits next to me.
"Of course. I-I love her, Kat. And I never thought that I would love anyone like I love Y/N. And I never thought anyone would love me back, either. So I'm going to do it. I'm officially going to make her my girl."
"I'm so happy for you!" She beams. "What's your plan?"
"Well... I was thinking of taking her to our special tree in the park but it just doesn't seem right, you know? I broke her heart there."
"But that's perfect, Phil," Kyle joins in on the conversation.
"How?"
"Well, think of it. That's your history there, Phil! That tree has always been your spot with Y/N. Sure, you broke her heart there, but this is a chance to say something romantic and fix it!"
"Yes!" Kat agrees. "C'mon, we'll practice. I'll be Y/N, and Kyle will spectate and tell us where we go wrong."
I look over at Kyle, who has a hint of jealousy in his eyes, but shrugs it off.
"Yeah, why not."
I sit on the bed, facing Kat.
"Hi, Y/N. I- uhh," I pause to think of something to say, but nothing comes to mind. "I've got nothing."
"Oh, shut up, Phil," Kyle demands. "Stare into Kat's eyes." Hesitantly, I do as I'm told. "Good. Now, imagine you're talking to Y/N. Imagine it's her sitting in front of you, but just don't kiss her."
I take in a deep breath and begin.
"Y/N. I know I broke your heart before, and I still regret it. And now, here we stand, in the spot where it happened. Only this time, you're not going to run away crying... I hope.
We've made so many memories here, by this tree, and right now, we're going to make another one. I ruined you here, and now, I'm going to fix you- completely.
I love you, I always have and I always will. And because of that, I want us to be together. Not just as the 'complicated friends'. But as lovers. So, I would like nothing more than to be your Westley, if you would be my Buttercup."*
The room is silent for a moment, until Kat sniffles.
"If that's how you're going to ask her to be your girlfriend, I can't wait to hear the wedding proposal," she squeaks.
"And the vows," Kyle pipes in. I shake my head and laugh. "Well, we better leave you to it. Good luck, mate," he claps my shoulder and walks over to stand by the door.
I turn to Kat who is actually crying. She dives, wrapping her arms around my waist and squeezing tight.
"I'm so proud of you," she whispers into my ear. "Now, go get the love of your life." She winks and rushes out the door, dragging Kyle behind you.
I frantically rummage through my draws, looking for the perfect thing to wear.
In the end, I decide on the usual black skinny jeans and red plaid shirt.
Once I'm dressed, I rush into the bathroom to fix my hair.
I finish and actually skip back to my bedroom, where I flop down onto my bed and pick up my phone to text Y/N.
Today is the day. The day we take the next step in our relationship. The day everything changes. The day we've been waiting for since the beginning.
*The Princess Bride.
Your POV
"Brighton?" I repeat.
"I'm so sorry, honey."
My phone buzzes with a text. I pick it up and feel a warm tear slide down my cheek.
Phil <3: Meet me at the park. I have something to tell you xx
Oh Phil...
