"Asano! What's the hold-up? We're starving~!" Nakamura called from the hallway.

"Coming!" Ginka's voice echoed from inside.

A quick sweep of the mirror. The drawers. Beneath the bed. Cabinet corners. Her gaze lingered on the smoke detector above, just to be sure.

Clear. Nothing weird. No bugs, secret cameras, or creepy Kyoto ghosts. All good.

She exhaled in relief and finally slung her bag over her shoulder, tugging her beanie down snug over her head before slipping out the door.

"Geez, what took you so long?" Kayano pouted, immediately looping her arm through Ginka's the moment she came down.

"Just makin' sure I didn't leave anything behind~" Ginka replied with a sheepish grin, scratching the back of her head. "We're gonna be out for a while, y'know? Gotta double-check for spirits and surveillance cameras."

"Ah, right. That kind of thing happens at some places." Okano shivered at the thought.

"Humanity is dead."

Kayano squinted. "Also... are you really committing to hiding all that hair under a beanie? It makes you look kinda... bald."

"Do you want me getting recognized left and right?"

Kayano paused, tilted her head, then gave a resigned shrug. "Fair. At least you have your face card saving you."

It was already past lunch on their first day, but the class hadn't been split into smaller groups yet. For now, they stuck together, with their three teachers supervising — a chance to get familiar with the place before going solo the following day.

The gates of Tenryū-ji Temple loomed ahead — grand, serene, like an ancient guardian watching over the sea of bobbing Class E heads as they marched in.

Koro-sensei, dressed in a shimmering golden monk cosplay, floated above the gravel path. "Ahhh, such tranquility! The perfect place to learn the value of harmony and stillness!" He sang, his head now shaped like a bell as he hovered in a glowing ball of excitement. "Welcome to Tenryū-ji, the head temple of the Rinzai Zen sect of Buddhism! Founded in 1339 by Ashikaga Takauji! Its gardens have remained nearly unchanged since the Muromachi period!"
