When Chase and myself enter The Lounge, we head together to a booth on the far side after ordering some beer. Chase immediately begins eyeing up the talent—in other words, the women—while I run a hand through my hair.
It's been a bit of a stressful week. I've been constantly looking over my shoulder since running into that officer and it's seriously fucking with me. It's like every corner I turn, my peripheral vision taunts me with flashing lights or black and white cars that aren't actually there.
The deepest parts of my brain are playing tricks on me, hoping I'll have a mental breakdown and give up. But I refuse to.
After everything I've done to be taken seriously against the other drivers—who are predominately male—I can't just throw the towel in at the first sight of danger. It's instilled in me to fight, right up until there's either no fucking fight left in me, or I'm dead.
Thinking back on it, I'm still surprised by the differences in reactions between Zayn and myself. He left me flabbergasted when he pointed out his opinion that it'd be better to lay low.
That's like saying he wants to curl up in the corner and die because some weak ass cop threatened him with some photos.
I mean, it's not even like we were fucking I'm those photos. But even if we were, who cares? It's not like porn is so fucking taboo. If some guy sees my naked ass and gets a stiffy, how in the hell would I even have knowledge of that?
So, no. Those photos that he showed Zayn are no threat. A threat is something much more serious—like jamming a gun in my mouth and proposing to kill my entire family if I don't shut up, or beating me until I'm on my knees and coughing up blood. Now those types of events are something that'd likely cause me to change my mind.
Not some photographs.
I think if I was on the verge of death, I'd likely do just about anything someone asked of me. But who wouldn't? Desperate people do crazy things.
"Damn," Chase mutters under his breath, drawing me back to reality. I look at him to notice he's spotted a woman. Following his gaze, I see a sexy woman with long black hair that reaches her hips. She sways her hips along sinfully to the beat as she dances with her friends.
