I'm just an ordinary girl living in Los Angeles. I don't look like those women they describe in books.

I tie my black, wavy hair into a ponytail, glancing at my chocolate eyes in the mirror. My fair complexion seems to be a little dull today probably because I hadn't slept well last night. I pull my jeans up high to avoid the love handles on my hip from being shown. I've got to admit that I really don't do much about it, it's not that I don't want to, I'm just too lazy to workout.

I'm twenty-two years old and I've just started working--that may not seem like a big deal, but it is. Sure, I'm old enough to take care of myself, and I'm living in LA, but none of that seems to matter to my strict parents.

They have three rules for me:

1) Strictly no boyfriend.

2) Never invite guys over.

3) Never go out with a guy.

How am I living in a big city with those kinds of rules over my head? What can I say--I'm Daddy's little girl.

I've never gone on a date. I've never kissed anyone.

So, obviously, I haven't done anything else, either.

It's not that I've never been asked out or anything; it's just that at first it was because my parents are very strict about it and I didn't want to go against their word but then later on I myself didn't want to get into one as I started to have trust issues.

------------------------------------------------------

It's been three months since I've started working. I work at a software company as a web developer.

My office looks amazing both inside and out, partly why I got attracted to this place at first.

As I walk inside the campus, I gaze at the fountain in the middle surrounded by flowers. It never fails to amuse me.

Once I enter the building, I could feel the AC blowing my hair in all directions. I walk towards the lift and sigh as I notice the lift at the twentieth floor which is the last floor. I decide to pass time by just glancing around, the receptionist seemed to be busy answering calls and a few people were seated opposite to the receptionist desk.
Once the lift opens, I press the 19th floor.

As I walk towards my desk, I glance at the seniors working in individual desks. The resting area with bean bags and a collection of novels seemed to be empty since the day hadn't started yet.

I walk over to the desks joined together and I sit down at my workspace when my best friend, Amy, walks over.

"Laura! Guess what? There's this cute guy who's joined our office," she says twirling her dark brown hair which goes well with her tan skin and brown eyes.

I just nod and continue to work.

"I can't believe it!" she gasps, "How could you not care?"

I shrug.

"You just ruined it for me. I'm going back to my desk. I'll see you later," she says storming off.

After I finish my work, Neil comes over. He runs his hand through his brown hair. I knew right away that something was up from the way his fair complexion was glowing with a hint of mischief in his hazel eyes.

"Will you tell me already?" I ask narrowing my eyes.

"You know me too well," he says with a smile on his face.

We talk for a while and then we both part ways to go home. I always take the metro. I don't know why; I just find it comfortable to travel in. Besides, it stops just one mile from my place, so I just walk from there to my place.

I stand near the doorways with a novel in my hand, I've always preferred it that way. I just love reading, and it's an amazing way to pass time while travelling.

I notice a guy standing opposite to me, trying to read the title of my novel. He's tall, with blue eyes and brown hair. I guess I should mention that he looks handsome. I close my novel and hold it in a way so that he can see the title.

"If I Stay," he reads out.

He smiles and says, "I love this novel."

"Great," I reply.

I never really liked the idea of talking to strangers, let alone making conversation.

He doesn't seem to care; he keeps going on about the book.

"This novel isn't cheesy like the other romance novels; it'd mostly just be physical affection. This novel shows you that you can build a relationship beyond that," he says.

I look at him in amusement.

"Exactly! If you're supposed to be together with someone, no matter what you'd somehow end up with them," I say.

"I loved the sequel more!"

"Of course you would, it's from a guy's point of view." I say teasing him.

"It's not that, it's the way he expresses his emotions," he says with sincerity in his eyes.

"I know, I was just kidding. To be honest, I loved it more too."

Before I knew it, there we were talking and laughing as if we were old friends.

To be honest, it feels good talking to him. It feels as if he can read my mind, and he seems pretty decent. I know they say not to judge a book by its cover, but he just gave me a good impression. He never looks away-he keeps on looking straight into my eyes and not below that. He just isn't like anyone else I've met before; he doesn't flirt at all and even though we talked a lot, he didn't even ask me for my number and the minute I laid my eyes on him, I just had an instinct that he was very decent and he didn't prove me wrong.

I'd like to thank celestialtrash for editing this chapter, I'm very grateful for that. Thank u so much!:)
