I wake up to see thirteen missed calls from Jason in face time. It's just nine, how could he wake up so early on a weekend and actually stay awake?
I take a shower immediately and throw on a blue jean and a black tee. I put my hair up in a ponytail and call him back on FaceTime.
"You're up early," he says.
"How do you get up so early on a weekend?"
"It's become a habit. You know I was thinking that we don't actually know much about each other or about each other's families."
"Yeah. We never really talked about anything."
"Today let's talk about our family. When you come over to my place tommorrow, we'll get to know about each other."
"What? Come over to your place?"
"Chill. Nobody is going to be home tommorrow."
"Oh great," I say sarcastically.
"I'm not going to do anything to you, we're just going to get to know about each other. You trust me, don't you?"
"When you know the answer, why do you ask?"
"To hear you say it at least once."
I laugh and say,"I trust you."
"I know," he says with a smirk.
So much for telling him.
"Do you have any siblings?" he asks.
"Yeah. I've got two brothers. An elder one as well as a younger one. My elder brother is working in Canada. He barely gets a holiday so he rarely visits us. It's been six years now since we've all stayed together. My younger brother is doing MBA. Do you have any?"
"Yeah, I've got an elder sister. She's staying with my parents. I'm living with my aunt and uncle here."
"Tell me about your parents," I say.
"My dad is really determined as well as stubborn. His principles come ahead of everything, he doesn't change it for anyone not even for his family. Apart from all that my dad is really caring. My mom on the other side is very friendly, sweet, caring and emotional. Her family comes before anything. How about your parents?"
"As you know my dad is really strict but that's partly because he wants to protect me but doesn't realize that I'm a grown up now and that eventually he'd have to let me go. My dad's not here right now though, his business is there in UK so he resides there. My mom on the other side is friendly and she wants me to have a little freedom but she's scared of my dad and doesn't go against it."
"Your dad needs to let you learn to protect yourself because you cannot rely on others all the time."
"I know and now I'm scared. I've become so dependent on them."
"It'll be alright. Don't you get tired of following all these rules?"
"I do, it's so boring to just sit at home. The only time I get to roam around alot with a friend is if they're family friends with mine. That way they find it hard to say no."
"We could become family friends," he winks.
"Right," I say sarcastically.
"Isn't it hard for you to stay here without your parents? Even though I live with my brother and mom, I keep thinking about the times we were all together. Now it's like we're all seperated. I really haven't been with any of my relations so the only family I have is the four of them but now they're all in different places too."
"It is hard. I miss them so much. Do you remember how I didn't show up to work for a few days, I went to visit them. It's alright Laura, don't worry about it. The good and bad thing is that nothing is permanent."
"You'd always be there, right?"
"Of course I'd never leave you."
