Laura's POV
With alot of effort, I open my eyes trying to control myself from going back to sleep again.
I haven't slept properly for the past few days. The reason is Jason. I understand that he's busy but I really don't want this to change everything though it seems like it already is.
I sigh and pull my hair into a bun. Just as I decided to hit shower, I get a call.
"Jason!!" I squeal.
"Laura. I'm so sorry, I won't be able to pick you up."
"That's alright Jason. I'll take my car."
"Alright, I've got to go. I'll talk to you later."
Yeah right.
The line goes dead. I throw on my casual clothes and head to work.
I bury myself with work to avoid my brain from thinking about Jason.
Before I could continue with my work, my stomach starts to grumble. I get up and head over to Jason's desk. He's too occupied with his work to even notice my presence.
"I get that you've got a lot of work to do but that doesn't mean you skip your lunch."
He looks up and starts to work again. "I know, I will once I finish this."
"Lunch break would be over by then."
"Why don't you go have lunch,I'll join you shortly. I'm not hungry.
"Right," I sigh.
I head to the cafeteria and notice my friends sitting at a corner table. I walk up to them with my food tray.
"Somebody has finally decided to join us," say Sam.
"Could you guys cut her some slack," says Veronica.
"He's just stating the facts. She is too busy to even say hi." says Mark.
Stephen and Mark were always the hotheads in our group with a very short temper.
"Laura, ignore them. Take a seat." says Stephanie.
I sit down beside Veronica.
"I'm so sorry guys, I didn't mean to ditch you all. I just got so preoccupied that I didn't notice. I know that's no excuse. I'm really sorry."
"It's alright. We should all hang out sometime though. Let's all meet outside once," says Mark
"I'm in. Let's go to the beach."
"So, won't you introduce us to your boyfriend?" asks Melanie.
"Of course. I'm really sorry for not having done it already."
"Could you stop apologizing already," says Veronica.
I give her a smile and she gives me a reassuring smile while twirling her black hair. She's always had long and thick hair which enhanced her olive skin.
Stephanie and Veronica had the same skin tone whereas Melanie had fair complexion just like I did. We all have one thing in common black hair including the guys.
Mark and Sam both had an olive complexion too.
We all sit together and laugh like old times forgetting about the past few months.
As usual, the matchmaking process had started. Stephanie always try to find somebody for Mark and Sam whenever she gets bored.
I start to head towards Jason's desk as we still had around ten minutes and he still hadn't ate.
I take a seat beside him. I open up the wrap cover, turn his face around and stuff it into his mouth. He looks at me in surprise but soon starts to gulp it down. He finishes the wrap in just minutes.
"I thought somebody wasn't hungry," I say.
He grins and places a kiss on my cheek.
I pat his head and head back to ny desk.
As the sun starts to set, I shut down my computer and head over to Jason's desk.
I notice a girl standing close to Jason. He gives her a hug and places a kiss on her forehead. Within seconds, our eyes meet.
He attempts to com over to me but the girl holds him back.
My heart started to ache. I didn't know what to assume or maybe I didn't have to, it was pretty clear what was happening. I was just too stupid to realize it earlier.
Jason had found somebody else and that's why he had been busy for the past few days. My mind started to imagine all the worst possible scenarios.
I start to walk away immediately. I try hard to fight back the tears from falling down onto my cheeks yet I fail.
It was all too hard to take in. I just couldn't digest it.
