Evening Runs

I woke up cuddled into Lauren's chest, her arms around me , our legs intertwined. It was heaven actually. Never wanting to leave, feeling completely at ease and happy. Of course the universe has different plans. Because not two seconds later, someone jumps on the bed, "Wake up!"

I groan, "Dinaaaah. Go away."

"Nah bish. We've been stuck in a bus for too long. I want to go for a walk. Maybe even a run.

My wolf perked up at the idea and I sigh, "Damn it, Dinah. How dare you know my weakness, child?!?!"

I hear a giggle come from my side and I look down to see a smiling Lauren, "Mornin' sleepin' beauty."

"Morning," she snuggles closer to me, "As much as I love your presence, maybe a run would be good. And it wouldn't hurt spending time with some of the other girls, get to know them better."

"Lo, I barely know you just as much as them. Not that that's really a bad thing since we just met, but I want that to change."

"It will, but I have plans with Ally anyway. So go have fun."

"Ok, fine," I get up and kiss her cheek, "I'll see you later."

Dinah groans from the other side of the room, "We get it, you guys are meant to be, let's goooooo."

"Yeah, Yeah, don't get your panties in a twist, sheesh."

I get up and follow Dinah out and we head off to some random place. I don't know where we are going, I'm just following the lead. The car ride to the outskirts of town was probably the longest 20 minutes of my life. My wolf was all to excited to finally get out and run. We park on the side of the road and get out. The air here smells so much better than the air in the city.

Following Dinah to the inner depths of the woods as she starts to run. Once she hits a good sprint, she shifts. Her wolf is a reddish brown, bigger and stalkier than your ever age wolf. I start running next to her, "Not too bad DJ."

I then lunge forward and shift into my wolf. My wolf is much larger than even her. My fur is an intense black, with even darker black strips that can only be faintly seen in brightlight. My eyes turn into a platinum color with a bit of a red tint. I look toward Dinah and see her gawking at me. I just shake my head and continue to run.

It's been too long since I've been on a run. The wind, the sights, the smells. Everything. Is just amazing. I was too focused on just running, I just now realize the scent until it's immensely strong. Wolves, at least 4 or 5 of them. Dinah stops and looks at me with a questioning look. I quickly shift, Dinah also does shortly after.

"Y/N, what's wrong?"

"Wolves."

"I thought I smelled something. I just thought I was imagining things."

"Never doubt your instincts, DJ. They're there for a reason. And they will probably save your live one day."

Suddenly, a wolf comes into view. "Shit," Dinah mumbles.

Dinah and I stand closer to each other, in a protective stance. She may not be part of my pack, but she is important to my mate, so she's important to me. And besides, I feel like we'll be great friends when the time comes.

I watched as another wolf came out and stood next to the other one. They both start snarling at us. Dinah and I start to take slow steps backwards. Suddenly, I hear a scream and I turn to see Dinah hanging by her ankle.

"Maybe you shouldn't invade another's territory without permission," someone says with a Peruvian dripping from his words.

I turn to see two men and the two wolves, "Last time I checked, these woods weren't marked."

The man in the white t-shirt growls, "Watch your tone pup. You have no idea who you are talking to."

I smirk, "Oh please. I know EXACTLY who this is. And I don't give a flying fuck. Alvaro told me much about his brother, Isandro, and his shit."

Isandro chuckles, "So, the child knows who I am. Looks like I'm feared amongst the alphas. Enough that they warn their cubs, " he looks at me, "Tell me, how is it you know Alvaro? He doesn't make himself present unless he has to."

"He is my alpha. I thought as much appeared obvious. Also, just because you and he are both Tiger-Shifters, doesn't mean his tribe is. Besides him, we are wolves. Therefore, our young are pups, not cubs, you incompetent asshole."

I hear a thud behind me then a grunt, "I'm ok."

"Yes, because you wolves are so dignified. You must defend every falsehood about yourselves. If you ask me, I call that childish."

"Say what you will, Isandro. I least I didn't kill thousands doing something, not only impossible, but also forbidden. You are not one of the elder gods."

The other man charged at me and pinned me to a tree, "You will NOT talk to Isandro like that you mutt."

The wolves lunge at Dinah, but before they get much of anywhere, I kick this asshole and he collides with wolves. I dust myself off, "Now, if you wanna fight, we can. But coming out alive won't be a guarantee I can give you."

Him and the wolves just groan in pain on the ground.

"Now if you excuse us. We must go."

I make eye contact with Isandro once more. He just holds a smirk and nods as we leave.

Dinah and I make it to the hotel as fast as we could. No words were exchanged. I could tell she had questions, but she knew now wasn't a good time to ask. Instead, we took comfort in the silence. The time is coming. It's coming so fast. No matter what, I know what must be done. Isandro and I will face each other. Alvaro will either be injured severely, or dead. Whether or not I'm prepared to accept the death of my own father, isn't up to me. But no matter what, I will face my uncle. And one or both of us will lose our lives.
