"What's the date?" Katie asked me as she flipped through her textbook. School was in full swing now, work upon work being pulled on us, we barely have any time to relax. Yeah, free periods help but they're all full of homework. You'd think we'd be used to it by now.
"Um... 6th October," I said. A hollow feeling settled into my stomach as the words left my lips, choking my throat. Katie gave me a warm smile, her hazel eyes soft and caring. The look a mother would give you whilst holding your hand in an effort to comfort you. It definitely made her babyfaced features age and make her look very intelligent.
"Try not to think about it, okay?"
I nodded but the feeling never left. Stuck in my chest like the memory of him that I wished would just erase itself. You'd think by now someone would have invented a way to get rid of unwanted memories that doesn't involve becoming addicted to drugs. Come on, we're in the 21st century for gods sake! His birthday shouldn't mean anything to me anymore. It has no significance. I never even knew him the last time he had a birthday. He is no longer a part of my life, and I no longer part of his. With time people change and move apart. It just happens that our parting was dramatically sped up. It was clearly inevitable and we both have to live with it. I've just got to focus on other things, like what I want to do with my life and preparing for tonight.

"Hey!" Christie called as she walked towards the car effortlessly in a simple but flattering top, skinny jeans and heels. She looked stunning. No wonder Corey fell for her.
"You ready to go?" I smiled, admiring how effortlessly beautiful she was. Every girl would be envious of her.
"Would I be here if I wasn't?" She smirked as she got into the car. "Are you really okay with this? You know cause of your history and shit?"
"I wouldn't have set this up if I wasn't okay with it," I smiled reassuringly at Christie. "You two are made for each other."
"But how do you know? Did some psychic tell you we have the same kinks?"
I laughed, shaking my head. "I think I'd have to rip my brain out of my nose if I knew your kinks!... Especially his, he probably has some completely fucked up ones..." Her eyes sparked with curiosity at this.
"So you know his?" She smirked, cocking her eyebrow.
"I have my suspicions..."
I winked at Christie as we began to drive ff towards his house. I was nervous to say the least. I hadn't seen him in a while and never intended on it again but this is something I had to do. Christie deserved someone right for her.
----------
"Are you sure about this?" Christie asked as she smoothed down her top.
"Positive. He prefers girls like you more than girls like me so you'll be fine."
She nodded before looking up at the door which quickly opened after we rang the bell.
"Ash," he greeted with a smile. I took a deep breath in, willing myself to make it through this.
"Callan. This is Christie," I said bluntly, gesturing to Christie beside me. His eyes trailer over her body like I expected they would, the glint in his blue eyes confirming the suspicions I had. I looked at Christie, her eyes slightly wide but tough like her personality. She was in and she was ready.
