Chapter 35:

I unburied my head from Corey's shoulder as the bike slowly came to a stop on top of the hill. By now the sun had set and the sky was littered with thousands of stars happily glinting in the black obis due to the lack of light pollution this far away from town. In the distance there was a low glow that seeped through the trees, almost missable, from one of the farm houses that dotted the countryside.

After we climbed off the bike, Corey slung his arm around my shoulders as we walked over to the other side of the large lonely tree that towered above us. He plopped down onto the grass, pulling me with him, which made me lean onto his shoulder as I settled onto the cool ground. He gazed down at me as we shared a peaceful silence and small smiles.

I suddenly found myself more immersed in Corey's sparkling eyes, which had grown darker than the sky around us, somehow holding the diamonds that spread around us.

"You were amazing today," Corey whispered as an attempt not to break the calm silence around us. My hand found its way to his and our fingers linked together, creating a tingling sensation along the skin of my palm.

"Thanks but you have to admit Brandon did really well in the lime light," I stated evasively.

Corey chuckled as his eyes scanned my face. He lifted his hand and tucked a lock of my hair behind my ear, his fingers lingering along my neck. I could feel the tension start to rise between us as my heartbeat started to slowly increase the longer we held each others gazes.

"Did you see that?" I asked stupidly as a white speck shot across the sky behind Corey. His eyes flicked in confusion as he turned to look behind him.

Idiot, he can't see behind his head!

"What was it?" He looked back at me with a small frown but his lips still held his small smile.

"I think I saw a shooting star..." I chewed on my lip as I looked up at him shyly.

I must sound so stupid and cliche right now...

"Really?" Corey's smile grew as his eyes swirled with amusement," I didn't see it."

I couldn't help but smile back at him as I tried to cover my embarrassment. Luckily it was dark so he couldn't see the blush forming on my cheeks.

"What did you wish for?" He asked with a knowing smile which was just border-lining a smirk. I chuckled and leaned back on my hands, looking out over the fields, my legs stretched out in front of me.

"It won't come true if I tell you. You know that," I looking over my shoulder at him, my tone laced with amusement, before I returned my attention to the beautiful scene in front of me.

"Awe, come on baby. Please?" He pleaded sweetly with just made it harder not to laugh but my heart fluttered at the same time.

"I want it to come true so I'm not gonna tell you," I stated as a smile continued to plaster itself into my lips, refusing to disappear.

"If it involves me I won't be able to for fill it if I don't know what it is," he bargained. I shook my head which made Corey stop his cute, incessant interrogation and fall into a tranquil silence once again.
