I'll Always Remember You

Ellington and Maddie

Ellington's POV

I slowly stroked Riley's tiny hand as I waited for Ross. He had called me, telling me that it was super important. His car pulled into my drive and he walked up to me.

"Can I hold her?" He asked with tears streaked all over his face.

"Do you mind me asking what happened?" I asked as I slowly handed Riley over.

"I read Nicki's letter. Don't read yours, it'll kill you."

"Too late." I whispered as I stared at the ground.

"Did you cry?"

"For the first time in a long time. I just wish I would've done more with her while she was still here."

Ross followed me inside and sat down, keeping his eyes on Riley.

"She was right." He whispered.

"What?"

"Riley is Nicki."

Rocky's POV

Maddie comforted me for the rest of the evening.

"I read my letter." She randomly stated.

"How did that go?"

"It was very tough. I cried. A ton."

"Do you mind if I see it?"

"Sure."

She reached for her bag and took her letter out. I took it from her and opened it to the same familiar handwriting.

Maddie Maddie Maddie,

I could never ask for a better friend than you. You were there when I needed you the most. You've always been there.

I wish that I could stay forever. We could go shopping and make fun of the boys together. Our favorite things to do.

Honestly, I could make this my longest letter. You mean the most to me. But I can't. I'm already bawling my eyes out.

I don't want to make this hard on you. I can't ever hurt you. You were there when no one else was.

I want you to be Riley's mommy. She deserves to have someone that can give her more than even I could've. I know you and Riker will do such a great job. I hope you treasure her just like I would.

I'm going to miss you so much Maddie. The others letters may be longer, but this one was the hardest for me to write. I love you so much best friend. I wish I could stay forever.

Don't cry over me. I'll fade from your memory very quickly. You'll be okay. Just know that I love you more than anything. You're my everything.

I remember playing with you as a kid. Then we didn't see each other until I found you in that restaurant and ended up introducing you to Riker. You guys are the perfect couple. You'll last a lifetime.

I love you Maddie. More than you'll ever know. Goodbye.
