Ross' POV
I'm ready. I can survive without Nicki. I can help Rocky and Riley.
I can do this.
I looked down at Riley, now 9 months old. She had learned to sit up 3 months ago, and she was about to go mobile. She smiled at me and made noises.
"Hey Riley! What are you doing?" I asked.
She giggled and reached for me. I picked her up and flew her around the house like Superman. All giggles. She was so sweet and I loved her more than any other kid in the world. She looked just like her mother. It was uncanny, the resemblance.
Amanda took her from me and started feeding her baby food. Her least favorite was peas, which was, of course, the only jar we had left. Her tiny face scrunched up in distaste and had Amanda and I in tears we were laughing so hard. I pulled out my phone and took a video to send to Rocky.
Riley was the only thing keeping Rocky alive. The devotion he had for her was unreal. No one else could ever build such a relationship with their child. Rocky would forever be the best dad that the world has ever seen. He was determined to give Riley the world and nothing less.
As I watched Riley play, I realized that life wasn't going to be so bad. Nicki was right, Riley took her place, and she distracted us from the pain. She was the drug we had all needed to get through this.
I looked at Riley and smiled at her.
"Here comes forever baby girl!"
