Detective Booney's P.O.V
"Captain, we need to talk", I told as I entered his room.
He nodded grimly and gestured towards a chair.
"Have they found out who last night's victim was?", he asked me expectantly, taking a sip from his morning coffee.
"Yes, they have. In fact, the DNA sample reports say that it was non other than Sophia Rider who went missing a month ago", I told him in a matter of fact tone.
He let out a weary sigh and placed the coffee cup on his table. Neither of us had slept for days.
"Detective, have you got any lead on this case? I mean any suspects?", he asked, his forehead etched with worry lines.
"No. Whoever that is involved in this dirty work are well trained and are professionals at it. They are very good at not leaving any traces behind. We can't even figure out whether one person is responsible for this or a group of them. It has been an year since this whole dirty work started. And still we have got no idea what's going on. I think we should use some back up", I replied and sighed in frustration as I gripped the table in annoyance. It's a habit of mine which I can't let go.
He nodded in understanding and then his eyebrows shot up questioningly as he heard the latter part.
"I don't understand what sort of backup you actually mean Detective", he commented as his eyes narrowed in confusion.
"Captain, what I actually meant was we should accept the IAE's offer to help us in this case", I replied with a shrug.
He threw his head back and let out a humourless laugh.
"Don't you get it Detective, the President gave us strict orders that the IAE should stay away from this. If we don't abide by, both of us would lose our jobs and we will have to start begging for money", he sneered at me.
"But, there are so many people out there-"
"I've heard enough! Go do what you have to do before I take you out of this case!", he cut me off sharply and glared at me.
I sighed and headed towards the door in silence.
"Great! Now that went really well", I muttered under my breath with a sour face as I exited the Captain's room.
"Bad day Detective?", Nora asked as she took in my grim expression.
"Is it that obvious?", I asked her with a shrug.
She smiled and was about to walk away when I stopped her.
"Hey Nora, could you do me a favor? I asked her in a whisper.

Emma's P.O.V
I sighed. All the channels were broadcasting the death of the little 12 year old girl who was brutally murdered last night. It has been an year since the whole kidnapping thing had started. Little kids, teenagers, men, women and even old people have got ended up missing, brutally murdered or sexually abused.
How could they sexually abuse a little 12 year old and torture her in such a way that her intestines were flowing out. I shuddered in disgust. The world has lost its humanity in greater portion. I switched off the TV and stepped out of my apartment to go to work.
I turned on the ignition and a smile made up to my face as I heard the engine purr happily. My fingers automatically ran over the soft leather covering the steering wheel and I couldn't help but sigh in content. I've been saving up for this car for years and finally it's mine.
I reversed my navy blue Camry from my driveway and switched on the radio as I stepped on the accelerator, joining the massive traffic on the main road.
The traffic ahead was fortunately moving slowly, easing the tension a bit. I was almost close to pass the colour light, but to my luck, it turned red just as I neared it.
Damn!
Seems like I'm running out of luck today.
A huge lazy yawn escaped my lips as I waited for the light to turn green. And that is when my ears perked up on the music playing in the background.
It was Photographs by Ed Sheeran.
When it gets hard
You know it can get hard sometimes
It is the only thing that makes us feel aliveI couldn't help but hum along the lyrics.
Man! It's been ages since I listened to this, making me almost forget how much I loved this song.
My eyes glanced at the lights to realize that it had turned yellow. I got ready to step on the gas as it turned green when all of a sudden, out of no where, a policeman jumped infront and gave us the signal to wait.
"What the hell is wrong with him? The light has turned green for God's sake!", I exclaimed, running my fingers through my black locks in frustration.
I took a look at my watch.
Holy crap! I was getting late for work!
"C'mon! C'mon! Please give us the go sign. I promise to buy you a chocolate if you do", I muttered under my breathe, hoping for a miracle to happen.
But to my luck, nothing seemed to work for me. Damn! seems like today isn't my day at all. First the jet lag, then the news, and now this! A great way to start your day isn't it?
I sighed in frustration and drummed on the steering wheel impatiently.
It has already been ten minutes since the police officer asked us to wait. It's probably because some celebrity was passing by.
I sighed again as my mind drifted off towards today's local telecast. All these kidnappings, murders and news telecasts with those gruesome images flashing before my eyes are taking the toll on me. They retrieve bad memories which I had buried away with great difficulty.
I shook my head to get rid of the sadness building inside me.
HONK! HONK! HONK!
POM! POM! POM!
The sound of horns blaring off their heads broke my train of thought and brought me back to reality.
I looked ahead to see everything blurry. I blinked away the tears to realize that the Officer had finally given us the 'GO' signal.
I kicked on the gas and whizzed past the officer gladly when,
BANG!!!
Out of nowhere, the car skidded across the road at a very high velocity and came to an abrupt pause and before I could get over the shock and put the pieces together on what had just happened, the car started rolling towards the side.
HOLY CRAP!
Before I could reach for something to hold on to, a piercing pain shot through my temple and all that I could see next was black, pitch black along with a ringing sound in my ears.
