Undercover

Chapter 6

Detective Booney's P.O.V

"So you say- that you saw a man wearing a black mask carry an unconscious Mrs.Henry in to a white van and drive off?", Captain North asked from Mrs. Henry's neighbour.

"Yes, that is exactly what I saw sir", Mrs. White confirmed with a nod.

I stepped forward and cleared my throat.

"Mrs. White, would you be able to give us a description about his appearance?", I asked as I checked her out for signs of lying.

"I'm sorry, it was too dark to figure out how they looked. But-"

"Pardon? Did you mention a 'they' by any chance?", I interrupted her as I emphasized on the word 'they'.

"Yes, I did. One was the driver while the other was the one who carried her from the house. I apologize if I hadn't mentioned it before", Mrs.White stated, letting out a shaky nervous sigh.

I looked at Captain to see him already looking towards my direction, his face masked with concern and worry.

I nodded at him encouragingly silently asking him to proceed.

"Mrs. White, we need you to calm down and give us all the details you know. Alright?", He stated, shooting her a reassuring smile in between.

She gave us a shaky nod in return. Her fists were balled and placed on her lap. Yet, if one looks closer, he would see that they were trembling.

Trembling in fear and hesitance as if something was scaring her.

"I'm scared that they would come in search for me next, if I do give you a statement.", she whispered softly and then looked up from her lap as her eyes leaked with tears.

My heart melted at the the sight of this woman as a gnawing sensation tugged my insides with guilt. It's because of me why people had to live in fear. If I had found who the culprits were I could have saved lots of innocent lives.

I felt my fingers clench into tight ball.

"Don't worry Mrs. White, we will provide you security if that's the case", I heard Captain's voice amidst my thoughts.

"Thank you Sir!", the woman replied, relief evident in her voice.

I shook my head to get rid off the thoughts consuming me. This was no time to ponder on what ifs.

I crouched down and looked at the old lady in the eye.

"Now please proceed telling us on their appearance", I flashed her one of my comforting smiles and gave her wrinkled fragile hands a reassuring squeeze.

"I couldn't see the driver properly as it was dark inside the van. But, I did catch a glimpse of the other one. He was around 6 feet tall. He was muscular and looked very strong. He was wearing a black sleeveless outfit. And there was a big tattoo on his bicep of which I was able to see under the street light", she finished telling us with a clueless expression on her face.

I felt a bulb light at the back of my head as I heard her mention about the tattoo.

"Mrs. White, do you remember how this tattoo looked like?", I asked her hurriedly while trying my best to not to scare her.

"Yes. It looked like a dragon", she mentioned after sometime with her face contorted in thought.

Captain North raised a questioning eyebrow at me to which I gave him a nod, signalling him that I'll fill him in later.

He nodded at me and then turned to face the lady again.

"Mrs. White, did you take notice of the van's number plate by any chance?", he asked as he jotted down a few points on his notebook.
