Elena stood there, paralysed, one second looking at Klaus, another one at Stefan, and then at Klaus again. Finally, her eyes stopped at Matt. It was as if her heart did somersaults and finished with a split. It nauseated her and her eyes filled with tears.
'Oh my god,' she gasped, terrified. 'I hurt Matt. What kind of a beast am I?'
'Our football player is all right,' objected Klaus and he pointed at Matt with his thumb. 'It looks that he's still in a good condition.'
That didn't calm Elena down much. As if the compelling was backing away, somewhere to the back of her mind, and she was beginning to realise how horrible everything she'd done was.
'Matt might be all right,' she said, her voice shaking. 'But my classmate... I... I...' Her voice broke, she burst into tears. Her cry was very loud.
'Shhh,' Stefan calmed her down and he hugged her and stroked her hair. 'It's ok. It's ok,' he kept saying again and again, until she relaxed at least a little. 'Do you see what you've caused?' he frowned at Klaus. 'I don't know what you meant with that love word, but let me remind you that you can't force it with compulsion! That's just not how it works!'
'Of course it is,' Klaus winked at her. 'Have you forgotten about Katherine?'
'Have you forgotten about me not dating her anymore?' retorted Stefan. 'Maybe she got me crazy about her for a while, but it wasn't love. Love is what's between Elena and me. Just deal with it.'
'You're pretty daring, considering that I'm an original,' said Klaus. 'Aren't you afraid of me ripping you, Ripper?'
'I'm more afraid of what you might do with Elena. If you really love her at least a little bit, you will leave her alone.'
'I won't accept any threats from you,' smiled Klaus disdainfully. After that he turned to Matt, he raised his empty glass and told him: 'Get us two more glasses, barman.'
