Elena turned on the shower, but she didn't get in it and instead she put on her T-shirt and pants. Even though she wanted to trust Klaus, she couldn't trust him completely, which is why she's been taking small portions of vervain so that he couldn't compel her. She had to act so that he thought that the compelling worked, so she told him what she was going to talk to Stefan about. Otherwise, he would have revealed her secret and she wouldn't have had the chance to escape.
She left the shower on and opened the window as quietly as possible so as to get outside through it. She softly fell on the ground and ran away.
Nevertheless, she couldn't deceive Klaus, especially not his perfect hearing. He noticed that she'd run, and he easily caught her on the corner of the street. He grabbed her hand and with a swift tug, he turned her around.
She was looking at him with defiantly and it reminded him of what Elena was like before she fell in love with him. He recalled how much she hated him. And now he saw that old disgust in her eyes again. And that hurt him.
'You've betrayed me,' he whispered. A tear of pain and anger dropped from his eye.
'You gave me no other choice,' she responded in a firm voice.
'There is no other choice,' insisted Klaus. 'Just you and me. Period.'
He dragged her back into his house where he tied her up to a chair with ropes and steel chains which she couldn't free herself from.
'And you claim you love me?' spoke Elena; there was a speck of mockery in her voice. As if she considered his love for her a bare twisted comedy - a really miserable one.
'You have yourself to blame for this.' He bent over to her and he stared at her in silence for a while, looking for any sign of the fact that this girl still loved him in her face. But if she did still love him, she was hiding it well. And he didn't understand why. He didn't understand what was going on with her.
'What's the matter with you? You're supposed to love me!'
'I do love you. But I love Stefan too.'
'You can't love two people at once!'
'Love is unpredictable, Klaus, and it's difficult to decide when to feel it, how to feel it or who to feel it for...'
'I feel that something's off here. You're acting like a different person. Somebody's done something to you. But who? What has caused all of this?' Klaus was asking these questions out loud. And out of the sudden, he got it. 'Magic,' he sighed.
'What?' panted Elena.
'I'll just be out for a little while, love, I have something to take care of. And when I come back, I'll untie you and I swear that everything will be OK again and we'll be happy.'
Klaus already knew who was behind this. It was time to get rid of Bonnie Bennett once and for all.
